Default Savage 99

For me it would be a Savage 99 with rotary magazine chambered in 358 Winchester or 338 Federal. I have one in 308 from my father and value it greatly, but I've always seen this type of rifle an ideal brush gun. It would be so nice if these were manufactured once again!

I always wanted a 500s&w mag, not many makers offer chambering in this round but i found an H&R handi rifle so i had to buy it. Being at the bottom of the world is a right pain when it comes to buying ammo... $160 for 20! Reload 500grn hornady xtp's for it now. Its my go to gun for close quarters bush hunting. Short, lightish, angry to fire, totaly love it.

Got mine recently. It's a .500 Jeffery. It's a really interesting round that dishes out 8000ft/lbs of energy.

I've cast some 500 grain gas-checked FP's for plinking and am soon going to try some 660gr steel-core FMJ BMG bullets in it. Yes, it fires the same diameter bullet as the BMG and although not a laser beam, the ballistics are pretty impressive out around 1400 yards, according to my computer.

Here's a pic of the .500 Jeffery with 660gr next to a .308 round:

I hope I don't end up with detached retinas, I can't afford the time off work.

The rifle is a Blaser R8 Safari. I have the .500 Jeffery and a .375 H&H barrel for it.

Correct me if I am wrong but don't think they ever made a double rifle in 505 Gibbs , maybe your thinking 500 Nitro Express that would be a excellent double rifle combo IMHO .

I've owned both in the past but would like to own them again in the future. First would be a 7x57 on an Full stock left handed rifle and a 257 Weatherby on the LH Ultra Light Weatherby or a Melvin Forbes made Ultra Light Arms.

One I haven't owned that I always thought would be fun is a 19 Calhoon. Too bad bullet availability up here is so bad for 19 calibre.

Think that is a dream that won't be coming true. Winchester never made the 1873 in 38-55. The 1894 was the first. Marlin chambered their lever a few year ealrier in 1876.

Not sure if its a dream or not but i sure wish i could find out who got my grandfathers 25-35, 30-40krag and 38-55. I was only 10 years old when he passed away and i always remember those rifles hanging on the gun rack above the deep freeze.

For any of you gents that are southpaws, and looking for a smoking deal on a double, Clay has a Butch Searcy SXS in 500 N.E. that taunts me every time I go on the prophet river site. Too much money to convert to a right handed rifle, but Searcy is a world renowned manufacturer of double rifles.

After seeing yours I've been looking at the blaser website the last couple of days. Beautiful rifles - would love to have one someday. I've been playing in my head with various combinations but I see they don't offer a 7mm-08 or 7 x 57, nor a 35 whelen. Huge selection of calibers though and about 3" shorter for the same barrel length.

Maybe a 270/300 win mag or 243/7 Rem mag and if I ever go to Africa or Alaska maybe a 338 win mag or 375 h&&h. Beautiful rifles - especially in the wood stocks. Put it on my lottery list.

Where did you purchase yours from? Is there anybody in Alberta who has them in stock so you could have a look at them?

My R8 was gifted to me but the Shooting Centre in Calgary has them and is a dealer.

The straight-pull bolt is remarkably quick and the locking system is very unique. I heard about people falling in love with the Blasers but didn't think it would happen to me. They are a work of art and an engineering marvel.

The fore ends come with three different widths of barrel channel for light, medium or the thick Safari barrel. The wider channels fit the narrower barrels but leave a gap so choose accordingly. My next purchase will be a .338 Lapua fluted match barrel which fits the Safari fore end, and luckily the .500 Jeffery bolt head works with it too.

Ackley/Epps Improve a Ross M10 in 280 Ross, rebarrel to make it a true 7mm. Flush mag with nice new Monte Carlo laminate furniture. Why? Cause it'd be different and cool, well to me anyways....

I've been on a tear crossing these off my list. Most of my calibre dreams are pretty conventional big-game calibres and of fairly run-of-the-mill rifle builds. Of the ones I don't possess my most desired is a 25-06 which I will probably buy in a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter. I'd also like 6.5X55 Swede and a 375 H&H.

.338 Lapua Magnum
Hopefully the 300 grain in a 1/10 twist can take care of my squirrel problem.

Balancing wants and needs, the never ending struggle, lol.
I've always dreamt of having some bigass revolver on my hip for year round bear defence camping/fishing etc.,and then stoke it with birdshot loads for popping chickens while deer/elk/moose hunting.I'd definitely own a .454 Casull,.500 S&W or similar if it weren't for our nanny state prohibitive regs in Canuckistan.
.338LM is high on my "want list" as well, but truth be told I'm more of a hunter then a shooter and hard to justify spending that much money on a 20lb cannon just to ring steel and smash rocks on a distant hillside, although it would be fun as hell uber-satisfying to build the skill set required to make first round/cold bore hits at XLR targets.....plus just the cost per round of firing it,even as a reloader, makes it not very practical when I can own a wee bit less offensive rifle that's "almost" as capable and can serve double duty as a long range gong ringer/hunter that doesn't require a wheelbarrow or hiring a gun porter to follow me around the bush.

I've thought about a 30 X 47 but, I need to stop. A friend runs one and gets very good results.
