Default LEH BC for AB resident

Good day all,

Just letting the ink dry on our real estate deal for an acreage on Seymour arm of the Shuswaps. Anyone fluent in the out of province hunting opportunities that I would be able to apply for and partake under a general tag?

Thanks a bunch

To be considered a resident you have to have lived in province for the previous 6 months and the residence must be your primary residence(on your BC driver's license, where you get your mail). Otherwise you are non-resident and have to be hunter hosted by a BC resident or hire a guide. It isn't legal to be a resident of two provinces for hunting purposes so if you remain an AB resident and just holiday here you won't be eligible for a BC hunters number(now called FWID). You are allowed to hunt small game/upland game without a hunter host, this also includes turkeys. All big game species you'll need a hunter host.

Default Thanks

Ok, so a hunters host it is. Then can I buy only non-resident over the counter tags or is there draws I would be eligible for?

Seems to be Muleys around the north arm and some moose, obviously lots of bears, but anything else?

Elk, a short distance west in the hills or across #1, west and south west of Notch Hill, or west of Yankee Flats.

You have to be in legal possession of a Resident BC Hunter Number to be eligible in ANY LEH Draw in BC

Under the Wildlife Act, a B.C. resident is:

A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, whose only or primary residence is in British Columbia, and who has been physically present in British Columbia for the greater portion of each of 6 calendar months out of the 12 calendar months immediately preceding the date of making an application under this Act or doing another thing relevant to the operation of this Act
OR

A person who is not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, but whose only or primary residence is in British Columbia, and who has been physically present in British Columbia for the greater portion of each of the 12 calendar months immediately preceding the date of making an application under this Act or doing another thing relevant to the operation of this Act

Short answer, no.

There are no "over the counter" tags for non-residents in BC. Your host must apply to government to approve a general tag for you. I don't know anyone who does this every year, but it is not overly difficult for a single year. However, it is significantly more involved than the Hunter Host system and rules in AB.

Small game license requires no host and can be purchased at the Government Agent office.
