Happy to join spfga
Finally after two years of Jan 15 applications, year three, applied at 12:01 Jan 1, 2017, I got into Sherwood park fish and game association range. Very nice range and property. Safe, family oriented club. Am very happy to be a part of such a good group. I strongly recommend you join if you can.

This year, the club offered about 500 Range Memberships to newbies. Not sure of the exact numbers, but think that mix includes about 300 "primary" memberships with the balance being the spouse/partners and dependent children. Total membership stands at a bit over 5100.
Range Memberships are capped and sell out very quickly...this year, no application received after Jan 01 was approved. The best advice for those who want the inside track for a 2018 RANGE Membership is to purchase a REGULAR membership ($55) now. The Regular membership (which is not capped gives you access to the entire facility EXCEPT for the firearms ranges...and, will put you at the front of the line for a RANGE membership in 2018. It just involves "upgrading" to a Range Membership when you are invited to renew. Call the office for details.
The next best advice to get a 2018 RANGE membership is to submit your application on-line a minute into the New Year.
Coyotebutcher- bet you were one of the 85 at Orientation this morning?

Why such a long wait or repeat of applications?

SPFGA does not accept applications for RANGE Memberships before Jan 1st in any year so if you are not successful, your app is returned and you have to wait until the next Jan 1. The club does not keep a "waiting list".

Yes it is a very nice, and well kept facility. And yes I was in the 85 newbs. I'm guessing 260rem is the maintenance fellow

It's a combination of a good facility, and an extreme shortage of range facilities available in the area.

Yes, there are 4 separate long gun ranges, a handgun range, trap range, archery range with 3D trail, and a Black powder trail. Nice campsites, Fish pond for kids, hiking trails, and a clubhouse with a kitchen for member use.

Been a member now for six years...family range membership.
The facilities themselves are very good. If one has a family and takes advantage of the camping facilities it also becomes a huge financial savings, what with provincial and private campgrounds running $20+/night.

Reminds me of the one I stumbled across in comox. The full meal deal.

Don't forget the SPFGA Annual Awards night being held April 1 at the German Club in Edmonton. Amazing prizes this year and excellent meal. Chance to spend the evening meeting and chatting with fellow members. Call the SPFGA office to buy your tickets. 780 - 910 - 4248
