Default Costco!

Synthetic are innexpensive and if you buy the right ones extremely reliable and comfortable. Bought 2 pair last year and with one pair made the mistake of cheaping out. Right now at Costco in Balzac they have some really nice ones for a good price. The reason they are nice is: light weight with a good personal weight to physical (snowshoe) size ratio. They have buckles as upposed to stretch straps (like snowboard bindings) and are brightly coloured so you wont lose them if you put them down in the snow. Shop around, but those are some guidelines for purchasing and like I said I was surprised by the affordability and quality of the ones at Costco. Good luck and have fun!

I bought some high tech aluminum ones last winter. Faber's I think. Very Very noisy in the crusty snow.
Wish I would have gone with wood. And bigger is better.

I have a pair of aluminum magnesium military snowshoes that I could let you have cheap. I humped with the same type in the CF for years and they'll keep you up even with a 75 lb rucksack on....lol!

PM sent.

Most of the synthetic, modern looking snowshoes that you see in outdoor stores are way too small to be of much use. I own a pair of the largest ones I could find and any advantage found in wearing them at all can often be questionable. I can only assume they make them like this so they can be worn while riding a skidoo but that idea sounds almost as bad as making snowshoes barely wider than a downhill ski in the first place. Either get the army surplus snowshoes or try to find some wooden ones.

I don't know much about coyote hunting, but I think it's pretty safe to say that you'd be better off going with some sort of gun instead of snowshoes...

Coyote hunting eh? Well I've tried snowshoes and I've tried calls. I prefer the calls. Let the coyote chug the snow.

Check out GV Snowshoes. They do both synthetic and wood, and got the contract for the Canadian Military. They've got some good stuff.

amen....i agree 100%

i have repaired, worked on, cussed at and thrown away almost every other kind of new style snowshoe out there...MSR is far and away the most comfortable, most efficient and the easiest to use and repair. Their harness system is super simple and almost indestructible. no buckles to fill with snow, freeze up, jam or break.....i vote msr as well.

I use a pair of the old style magnesium military snowshoes.

They don't have the best floatation in really deep, fluffy snow or traction on icy slopes, but a great all-round snowshoe and they're practically indestructible!

I'm still looking for a better binding system though.
