Default Good coffee place for date?

I don't drink very much coffee myself but I have a date coming up who rejected my idea of going to a bar to meet up at a coffee place instead. What is a good coffee place that has a nice intimite atmosphere in Calgary. I'm guessing Kensington has some good places. Suggestions on any names in particular?

I don't have any suggestions as I don't live in the area, but your post put a smile on my face this morning. Have a great date.

Kensington? I once went to The Roastery. That's probably the type of place you're looking for.

Higher Ground or Vendome would be good. The Roasterie I think would be too small and you would be sandwiched between the guy serving coffee and the guy roasting beans. Weeds on 20 Ave NW is good too and they serve beer.

Have fun on your date!

Default Coffee? Nah, go for tea

You want to show her your sensitive side? Then go for tea!

haha

In all seriousness, head down to 17th to STEEPS. The walls are shelved with 100's of types of tea blends so you'll get to know a bit about each other and helps get the convo going. Just expect to pay $5 for a cup of hot water and leaves

Best of luck

Not sure if you would call it intimate but maybe try one of those "Good Earth Cafes". I've taken a few spanish lessons in one of those shops and its was never busy.

Decent place on sit back and chat if that's what your looking for.

Make the coffees at home and dress up for a nice trail walk. Every date ive been on inside a coffee shop will end up with awkward silence or stluggling to find a topic to talk about. At least if your on a walk you have distractions and observations to make. Good luck on your date

I can't think of a coffee place that "has a nice intimite atmosphere", but then I can't think of a bar that does either.

I would be heading to Analog or Bumby's.

Lazy loaf and Kettle. Memorial/ parkdale drive.

Worked for me. As a plus river is there for a walk.

Ps: on a side note the deserts in there are out of this world and will for sure break up any awkward moments!!!!!

Best coffee is at Phil & Sebastian (different locations in Calgary). If she loves coffee, you will be able to impress her :-)

My favourite place was Second Cup in Signal Hill. If the date wasn't doing a nosedive then we'd head into the bar side of Montana's for a 'snack' and libations...more times than not, we'd end continuing the date elsewhere's........but that was back in my sinning days

Tim Hortons. Extra large black with an apple fritter. That's what I would be doing.

You may want to reconsider her as "dating material" if she doesn't want to go to the bar..

Bet she wont wanna go to the hunt camp either...or you to go to the hunt camp...

He didn't say she didn't drink. He said she didn't want their first meeting in a bar. Wise of her to not have her first impressions of him dulled by alcohol.

It's not about her needing the booze!

I'm with you on this OKO,

I'd also guess it has more to do with getting to know someone in a quiet setting where you can have a real conversation than it does about the getting into the sauce

Side Note/ Pa_of_6, having my wife come camp hunting sounds about as fun as her joining my 4-some on sundays. haha, I know spouses can bond over hunting but I like that I have my own thing and she has hers. (shopping haha)

Regardless, Best of luck on the date MAC

And I'm with you on that one. Like my hunting space. Though one advantage of a huntng spouse that I can see is that she would probably be more likely to approve of you spending more $ on it. Easier to buy that gun or book that safari. That is one hurdle I do face.

I agree on not going to a bar, usually too much ambient noise to talk. There should be a few good coffee shops on 17th ave. I would usually spring for lunch or dinner, you can tell alot from a person by what and how they eat.

Forgot about the Lazy Loaf and Kettle, that's another good one. It's nice and relaxed there. I wouldn't say it's intimate though.

This gal knows her stuff!

Taking a short drive to Bragg Creek is a smart idea for several reasons:

-It gives you a chance to converse
-Try something new
-Help Bragg Creek out with your tourism (still hurting from the flood)
-Great places to walk, like Elbow Falls
-If it progresses into dinner, definitely try the Italian Farmhouse - you will win at dating.

Great suggestion Doetracks!
