Trail-cam / Tree-stand theft
For those that have either had their gear stolen, or those who have gear currently (or soon-to-be) in place...
Where was your gear stolen from, or where is your gear now (or going to be) ?
Please provide a short reply as to your experience. Thank you.
Just curious.

I had a brand new ground blind stolen from me last fall before I even had a chance to use it. I carried it in a mile and a half from the road on my pack frame. It was an ambitious thief I'll give him that. I'll stick to hunting private land I guess.

New ground blind stolen on my own property . Set it up a week before the season a half mile from the nearest road , never even got to sit in it . Also 2 treestands chained and locked in a tree , I thought locks were only for honest people .

Had a ladder stand stolen on private land. You could see the farm house from the stand. Touch wood, I've been lucky with my cameras.

4 tree stands,all on crown from 2-7 years,all safe.
3 cams,2 on crown,one private,all good.
I have in the past however had a stand stolen on crown, and another permanent wooden bear bait stand chainsawed down on crown, most likely by the A-whole that bombed my bait with a stand of his own 500m from mine which had been there for 3 seasons!

I had a trail camera stolen from crown land. I left it out over the winter. Luckily for me it was a cheap one, but still....
Now, i have all my cameras and treestands on private property. Haven't had one go missing yet.

One ground blind sliced on all four sides, stole the chair from inside and left a no trespassing sign. Spoke with landowner about it, confirmed I was only one with permission. So I fixed the blind, put it back in the same spot. Used the no trespassing sign to make a note with my phone number asking them to call me to discuss returning the stolen property. Did get one phone call from the neighboring landowner, said he'd been hunting there for years.
Trailcam last year, cut lock off and turned camera around backwards and put back in security box. Card was already full.
Makes you shake your head!

This just happened to me for the first time today! Camera is chained but can be opened. Private land, my guess is someone was not where they're allowed

After receiving exclusive permission on some primo deer land was so pumped about this spot I went out and bought two brand new cameras to break in the property and when I came back two weeks later both where gone! Asked the owner if I was the only one he gave permission to and I was..... He made some calls around for me to people he thought might have ventured on the land just in case but no one fessed up to taking them. Never did bother to scout or hunt that land after that.

Thefts like these are total bullshtt. The worst part is that you'll probably never find the guy, and even if you do, there's nothing you'll be able to do. I'm tempted to start "booby trapping" my gear. I know for sure if I walked up on a guy touching my gear during rifle season, he'd be seeing a warning shot!

I've lost stands on private gated land that only a couple of us have access on but it's hard to prove anything..... I've lost camera's on private land in an area I've hunted all my life where I know 98% of who hunts it. Again without being able to prove anything, my thoughts on the matter don't add up to a pinch of coon ****! Most guys just leave a goofy pic on the camera if they find it which is always entertaining but that 2% of guys are running a very fine line of getting their ass handed to em if I ever catch em.

I've never had any of my camera equipment stolen.
When I got my first trail cameras it was immediately apparent to me that the mounting straps provided amounted to a 360 advertisement that a camera was there.
With that in mind I placed my cameras well back from any trails or roads. And hidden by branches and leaves as much as possible.
It was a pain to get a good setup but I didn't loose any equipment.
Mind you I never had anyone come close to those cameras so far as I know.
Besides if they had been stolen it would have saved me hundreds of dollars.
Those cameras were garbage in the worst sense of the word.
Since I stated using my own mounts I have had one person walk right by one of my cameras. At one point he was less then ten feet from it and as near as I can tell he never knew it was there.
I am not surprised. Even though I know exactly where they are I have trouble spotting them from any distance over about twenty feet.
No strap no wrap around advertizement.
I did have a tent stolen years ago. That tent was left set up on my trapline as a overnight stop while opening a trail. It was stolen by a local outfitter.
I let him know that I knew he had it and of course he claimed he thought it was abandoned. It wasn't worth arguing about it so I left it at that.

I have been fortunate, only lost one camera in the bow zone because guys wander where they shouldn't and are afraid of getting caught.
Any cameras I put out now I leave a note stating "I hope you found the other 3 cameras that took pictures of you stealing this one. Please put it back."
Has deterred the honest so far.
