Take a trip to canadian tire and pick up a swede-bore auger and a drill conversion bit.

8 inch Finn Bore III is the way to go. The scoop shaped blades cut like butter. Compared to the Finn Bore, the Swede bore augers with mora blades are crap, get the Finn Bore! The offset handle on the Finn Bore makes it even easier to drill by hand if you need to.

I bought the new Milwaukee Gen 2 fuel drill with the 5amp hr lithium battery and hooked it up to an 8 inch Finn Bore using a Kovac II Ice Master adapter with a bungee cord attached. The guys I was with were slack jawed when they saw how fast it drilled through the ice. The whole rig weighs 10 pounds. I drilled at least 20 holes through 9 inches of ice and the battery was still 3/4 full. AMAZING!

8 inch was to big for my 3/4 drive dewalt.
The time I finished drilling a foot of ice ,the drill was hot.
For the price of burning out my drill ,I went and bought a gas auger.

The Milwaukee Fuel 18 volt gen 2 has 1200 lbs of torque the gen one's had 750 but I'm sure even that would be enough for the Finn Bore. Blade design makes a big difference in how easy they cut. Had to get the Kovac adapter at Bass Pro for 35 bucks even though I'd rather support the locally owned Fish'n Hole. The Fish'n hole has the Finn Bore augers in 6 and 8 inch. They also have a simpler adapter for 10 bucks.

Peavey mart has the Eskimo 8 inch hand auger for around 50 bucks, the adapter is sold at Canadian tire, to adapt to the drill.
I don't recommend using the drill method as in the past I've burnt through 2 drills. Might wanna stick with a smaller auger if using a drill. Or just buy a gas auger/ electric ion auger
Side note I might still have my old Eskimo and adapter kicking around if interested. I don't use it anymore.

This might be the best choice:
CLAM AUGER DRILL ADAPTER PLATE + Gen 2 Milwauacc ( peak touqe: 1200 pound)

the plate can buy from BB, My experience was today at Gull lake is 1inch/sec
it is faster than most gas auger and less weight

Here were the pics:
