Happy .... The spot I suggested your check out is in 5 FOW ... 6" of ice is questionable, should you guys break through, bring some extra socks & clean underwear, your may need them.

Questionable to drive on even with a quad this year. Might be a few spots with only 4" or less of ice. Darwin comes to mind.

Brownlows lake access road is closed .... the gate is locked and someone here said it won't be opened by the local municipality until the day before fishin season starts .... but I can't confirm that. Does anyone here know for sure ?

Sylvan just froze over last night, my guess it's +/- 3" ... with this cold weather it may grow to +/- 5" by Sunday. Take a steel spud bar with you.

I know last year the gate at brownlows wasn't open the morning of opening day. Now if it opened later in the day it could have..but when I checked at 7am it was still closed so I went to another spot on the lake.

I recall another member experienced the same ... this maybe one way to keep Happy's feet dry this weekend.

EVERY year I ask the county to open the gate earlier. Every year I get the same reply. I personally go to the county office to ask. No dice so far. Might head out tomorrow and check the ice thickness and report back

Hey! That is better than expected no?

What I'm scared about is the forecast - Warning just issued - -42 windchill tonight....what!?!
Supposed to be better by Sunday so miracles can happen. Otherwise that is not just cold, it's stupid cold!

P.S. The -42 is for the Red Deer area. Here in Edmonton it is just a minor -34 wind chill..pffft... break out the shorts

Tomorrow you most likely will hear the lake ice cracking from cold stress just like the cubes in my Rum & Coke.

No one in Alberta parks in their garage anymore, wonder how many car batteries will call it quits with those temps.

Snow for Sunday .... things will improve.

You called it Zip, from another thread it sounds like that is what others are hearing. Also reported 7-8 inches on the North West side. I'll wait until Saturday to decide but I'll be ready if the temps are reasonable for Sunday.

If any of you are still thinking of heading out tomorrow:

Quote:

Sun, 11 Dec Cloudy. A few flurries beginning in the morning and ending in the afternoon. Clearing late in the afternoon. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 increasing to 40 gusting to 60 near noon. High minus 21. Wind chill minus 38.
