That's quite a project you have going here Zip. Good info for anyone who fishes Sylvan (and Gull I imagine). Only one problem, I got the shivers just sitting here looking at your latest pics and temp. forecasts. Make sure your propane heater is working well on the 11th.

Ninja ... I do this so members have some idea of ice conditions before they drive out to Sylvan & proceed on to the ice. From what I recall NO vehicles went through the ice in the last 2 years .... this year was questionable, but with this Siberia system on us, we should have good ice by Sunday.

7.5" in 3 days. Crazy how fast this ice can form when it is this cold. I'm staying indoors this weekend though, looking outside is cold enough for me lol.
With cold weather as far as the forecast goes we should have lots of ice this year by the looks of it.

R/Y .... was a bit surprised myself, I kept testing the ice while walking out with my HD spud bar and it all sounded the same.
The TV said this system could sit over us until early January ... by then most everyone will have cabin fever & the temps won't matter.

Nice work Zip and BWabbit! Temps are one thing. 60 Km/hr winds and low temps are another. Got the fire started now and don't plan on letting it go down until after the Oilers game tomorrow.
Have fun out there and I hope you get em!

This was the only vehicle driving out on the ice, everyone else parked adjacent to the shore or on the road. Ice was a bit thicker at 8-9 " in 5 FOW. But was it ever windy and miserable out.
I imagine the Green Hornet would be a fun toy.

Found these in my file ... this is what happens when the ice isn't safe !
Last year on the Deline NWT Ice Road.
A few years back on Tibbit to Contwoyto Ice Road to Diavik.

Yeah, still windy and miserable too. But, looks like nicer temps are coming and this weekend could be pretty sweet.
Zip, the big question, any luck fishing?

I was out on Norglenwold it was miserable out, moved 4 times, missed a couple of Whites, got a few small Pike & Walleye ... didn't see any Perch or Burb's. B-Wabbit & I were going to try Gull today, the wind changed our mind ... hope the weekend forecast is accurate.

Got up and it said it was -38C out .... enjoyed a second cup of coffee by the fireplace, went out this afternoon for some spirits and the Norglenwold village has begun, with quite a few vehicles out on the ice.
Have a fun weekend.
