Default How accurate are your .222's

Like the title says, how accurate are they how far can you consistently hit prairie dogs and coyotes and what is your gun and scope combination.

My .222 is a heavy barrel Sako Vixen with a 4X12 Burris Fullfield (the original USA made) scope with a fine reticle. I can shoot 5 shot groups around .5" @ 100 yards, and easily hit targets out to 200 or farther, but the wind comes into play much past that. If the wind isn't too bad, I consider my .222 good to about 250 yards or so.

Default 222's

I have 4 to choose from. My Ithaca LS55 bench gun will put 3 in the same hole at 100 yards. I haven't had any chances to shoot the others any place but the range, a beauty Kimber of Oregon custom classic, a new Steyr classic Mannlicher, and a 788 Remington.
Guess I have to try and get them out of town this summer. FS

My .222 is identical to ScottN's but with a bit more scope (4.5-14 Leupold). Best groups run in the 0.2 to 0.3 inch range. It'll shoot 0.5 inch with almost any handload and most factory stuff. Like ScottN's, beyond 250 it needs to be pretty windless. On quiet days however, 300 yard crows are in big trouble. Wish I had gophers. 200 yard coyotes are a cinch with the right bullets. Wonderful gun to shoot. I prefer it to my 22-250. If you're interested in one, there's a Sako Vixen on Gunnutz right now.

Sako 75 SS Varmint Laminate pictured with Leupold VXIII 6-18X40 VLR reticle. Can literally see the bullets strike a target at 100 yards, if you follow through on the shot, with the Holland muzzle brake.
Shoots small groups with Lake City Reformed brass and the Nosler 40 BT. Even smaller groups with the 40 V-Max

Default sako

You should get that rifle back it was fun to shoot with a muzzle break on such a small caliber. It was like shooting an HMR for recoil. FS

Dad has an older Sako 222 that shoots VERY well.

I need to buy myself a Tikka or Rem 222 one of these days for a coyote rig, great cartridge!

My .222 sits on top of a 20 ga. barrel. A savage M24 over and under, this is my coyote calling gun. I used SSGs in the shotgun barrel for close in shots and the .222 for coyotes that don't come in really close.

This is not a ground squirrel or bumble bee shooter. I am happy with a 2.5 inch group with the 2.5 power scope on it.

We don't have "prairie dogs" in Alberta.

Love the pic of the O/U break action...my stepdad has that same gun in NB and has used it for deer hunting with no scope. (BTW, the .222 is legal for deer there even if it seems a bit light, it is deadly) I haven't seen his gun in years so this pic is a neat reminder. Thx.
