Good luck with your truck. The tundra would be trading down.

Yup, enjoy the new wheels. Its always exciting. People always babble on about mileage and such but I pay zero attention to what they say. I currently drive a 15 silverado 5.3 and just reset my avg mpg counter the other day and it was at 19.3l per 100. And i very rarely tow. My mileage results are always way lower than what everyone else in the world seems to get lol. I trust if i drove all these magic fords, the results would look very similar, as with most any other half ton. I do know the chev rides much better than the tundra, but even that at the end of the day doesn't matter much if I was in the shop all the time

on my nth f-150 now, this one a '16
My only concern is the aluminum body on a steel frame thing.
I work in a salt water environment and can tell you that steel + aluminum + salt is not a good mix, hope that they have insulating bushings everywhere they need them.
Time will tell if they got it right
I'm trading at four or five years anyway
Got a plain six, no eco-boost.
Don't tow, more than adequate power
10L/100 since the day I bought it
Very comfortable

What's not to like?

Congratulations on the new truck. What was your thought process that landed you on the F150 and not the Tundra? Curious to know what swayed you over to Ford?

Heres my 2 cents. I traded my 2015 f150 5.0 (52000km) last summer for a tundra. was getting rough idle issues with no codes so dealer couldn't fix it. Also would randomly stall. That being said I towed the same trailer (7500LBS) with each and the tundra with the sport package, rear swaybar, tows as stable as my 2011 f350 did. a big plus. Quite comfortable at 100km/h and then some. the f150 was a handful above 90km/h, quite scary actually. f150 was crewcab 6.5ft box 4x4 with tow package. It may not be as good as the f150 on fuel empty but towing the trailer they are pretty much the same.

Same engine as what I got. XL 2017 ECSB with a true 6’ box. Great truck and I still tow 3 quads on my flat deck trailer easy 110 km/h or 120 if needed. I just installed a trailer brake switch I bought from ford, re programmed the computer. The plain 3.5l is great on fuel and still tows, just doesn’t have the git up and go as my fiancé’s eco boost 2017 f150. Just drove from Fort Saskatchewan to the cabin, 10.4 litres/100 km. Just filled up in fort, said 1188 km till empty and drove 115km to the cabin roughly and when I parked it said 1208 km till empty.

Great choice of vehicle and I’m sure it will serve you right!

Just like at a Toyota dealer, mostly Toyota’s coming in...would like to hear from someone that works for Ford to see why not an F150, not just some other brand owners trashing the competition. Maybe he can provide some good insight on it...

Maybe it's because Ford literally sells millions of them.

I think this is what happens alot. Lets say 0.5% of Fords have issues, on a million trucks, that's 5,000 problem trucks. Toyota sells 120,000 trucks, 2% of them have issues, that's only 2,400 problem trucks. With "less" issues, Toyota obviously makes a better truck.

Again, I will say that the cheapest part of a truck is the gas. Toyota also has a 4.6L too.
It’s all in how you look after them. I’ve never had any issues with Fords. After reading your test drive thread I can see why you’d have issues with any vehicle. I owned an eco boost and it pulled as good as my diesels, just a lot cheaper to buy then the diesel. I currently own a 5.0l and it pulls my 34ft. trailer just fine.

There is one more factor in play, Toyota does not make major changes every few years. They spend years developing a platform, and only bring out major changes after several years. Ford like GM is constantly making changes, and brings out a new platform every few years. That constant change does not give them enough time to do the same amount of testing , both for the actual parts, and for the assembly line techniques to install the new parts. If you are going to have constant change, you simply can't expect the reliability of a proven platform. No matter whether you look at consumer reports, Truedelta , or other rankings, the current Tundra is one of the most reliable vehicles ever built, and it hasn't seen major change since 2007.

Exactly, in 2007 the fuel mileage was competitive, but in 2019 it isn't. I would expect the new platform to be competitive as far as fuel economy goes, but within 5 years, it too will start to fall behind mileage wise. But reliability wise, the new Tundra will likely remain at the top.

Had my 07 Tundra for 12 years now, yes it's thirsty but still love driving it. Put some Bilstien shocks in it, rides better than new!

I'd be interested in hearing what repairs you've had to do to it in those 12 years.
