Exclamation Crazy Sharp Knife!

How's it going, everybody?

Just wanna share with you guys the final result of restoring Japanese Deba Knife, I recently finished.

I've polished and sharpened the blade to the razor level using Japanese Whetstones.
I also made a new handle for it, using Purple Heart and Ebony exotic woods in tandem with G10 Blue Liner.

I've made a movie about it, you can watch it here https://bit.ly/2YjuosB

Here is some before and after pics

Watch the video to see how sharp it is.

Thanks for your time looking into this.

Have a wonderful day!

Cheers!

Thanks, guys!
I am glad you like it! I put a part of my soul in it.
I bought it off eBay, straight from Japan.

Amazing. I looked on eBay, the exact same one popped up for $38.

Want to do another one?

Excellent job, and I thoroughly enjoyed your video and your keen sense of humor too.....'I am begging on my knees, send a jar of elbow grease, and a bit of patience please....'. Story of my life right there. Still waiting for the parcel though.

I like how you also used the correct 'colorful' language as you ran into issues drilling the handle. That ebony and purple heart are hard woods!

Loved how you polished it with the Japanese water stones, I've done a couple old Solingen knives from Germany but decided that patience is not my best quality. I did manage to shave my arm pretty good with them when I was done too. Anyway, well done, and keep them coming!

Good answer Ken, saves me sending you a PM warning you about sharp knives...

When the 'finger count' comes up short, it's a real bummer.

Get sponsored by Dollarama? I'm totally in! Hahaha
No, seriously who doesn't like Dollar stores?
I'm glad you found that vid entertaining.
Oh, man, I'm in love with Purple Heart!
I definitely going to try some other exotic woods in the near future! Pleasure to work with them, even though it's hard to shape them

If you like purple heart, you'd love coco bolo (cocobolo)....one of my favorite hardwoods to work with. Beautiful and very tough! Google it, you will like what you see, assuming you aren't familiar with it. Would make great scales for knife.

Yeah, I've heard about Cocobolo and seen it on Youtube, looks pretty good, you are right. Does Windsor Plywood have it?

I can sharpen your knives on my whetstones, I'm currently unemployed, so extra cash wouldn't hurt.
Send me a DM

They usually do, and you can buy small pieces in the off cut Bin. It is my favorite to work with. I carved a small 'welcome' sign out of a piece years ago with a Drexel, my daughter has it now and loves it. Great color.

Cocobolo is a true rosewood. Some people have very bad reactions to the dust. I have a couple of large planks I've been saving for guitar building. Very nice stuff. It can be tricky to glue as it can be quite oily. Beautiful stuff though. I like African Blackwood even better but it's another degree of expensive and difficult to obtain.

Good to know, thanks!
I am going to check out their off cut bin for sure! Maybe find some other good stuff there!

Talking more about Purple Heart, I had a little practise before I made this knife handle. Couple of weeks ago, wife's manicure "chisel"(or whatever) got broken, and she asked me if I can fix it? Here is the answer!

She was impressed with the result!

I made a little video about it too https://bit.ly/2uuofvQ
