LC, you're having some great seasons. You mentioned follow up shot...must need to switch to fixed blade lol
Nope...never

If they are still in range and still standing a follow up is an insurance marker.

Lefty, great deer! Was the guys velvet ready to split, reason I ask is most of the miles I have seen over the last couple days are clean. Also do you use a spotter when stalking mules. I don't but heard it helps.

Default 9/11/2015 Bull

Just got out of the truck to spray down and could hear the elk bugling in the distance. A little over an hour later worked in closer to a herd bull and got between him and my hunting partner chirping like a lost cow and this satellite bull came in fast and loud. First arrow hit him at about 20 yards and he bolted forward stopping at less than 5 yards but there was some brush between me and him, still slipped a second arrow in at a hard quartering away angle...he busted away hard but didn't go more than 75-80 yards. Bit of work to get him out, skinned and into the cooler, but all worth the experience and the fine table fare that my family will enjoy over the next year.

Default First Bow kill

First time out Hunting with a Bow, second day in my tree stand, called him in from 80 yards for a 20 yard shot, Went straight through the neck, dropped 20-25 yards from where I hit him!

YES, always shoot again if you have the chance. I was walking a line with my uncle years ago during rifle season, we came over a little rise and there was a bull elk facing us at 60 yards, before my uncle even saw him I put the cross hairs on his chest and fired, the elk ran in the bush and stood there at about 35 yards in, he was leaning on a 10 foot spruce tree so hard that the tree top was almost touching the ground. His whole body was shaking, I put another round on the chamber and my uncle says no no, he is done. Seconds later he runs away.
Anyway long story short 3 miles later and the next morning I found him and finished him in his bed. Two lessons here, always follow up whenever the chance is there, and the head on shot isn't the best option. Sorry for the slight derail but hopefully this can help some new hunters recover more game.

Im kind of embarrassed to say i never really even noticed that there was an archery section on here, i always just went to the hunting section, lol. Anyway, glad I noticed this now. Here are my 2 from 2015 so far, first one is my spring bear from one of my baits, second is a muley from a few days ago. Congrats to everyone on an awesome season so far!

100% lucky shot! was definitely aiming for a lung shot... My hands were shaking, and my heart was pumping, i'm surprised I hit it at all! But I have a freezer full of meat and a rack to hang so thats what matters to me!

He was with a smaller bull and a cow in a canola field slowly making there way back to the bush, So i just hurried and got to the bush before they did, let the smaller bull and the cow go by then i ranged him and grunted and he stoped. Rest is history.

Default Sept 11, 2015 Bull

Had a bull sounding off as soon as my hunting partner and I stepped out of the truck to spray down for our walk in, set up on him once we got into a couple hundred yards. Set up and tried to call him in and he stayed put,so we moved in a bit closer and tried a new tactic, had the caller bugle and rake and I went to the downwind side, I then noticed that it appeared we had two bulls repling to the bugling, so I started to work in closer and chirped as I went in, I then noticed yet another bull repling from directly down wind but distant. I continued on towrads the bulls sounding off to the south of us. I chirped a few more times as I advanced and heard one of the calls was much closer now, so I set up quickly in a spot that had a few short shooting lanes and called again, he was very close and still coming, I saw him about 50 yards out through cover and drew as he advanced, he stoped at about 30 yards still head on, I kept quiet and waited as he assessed his suroundings. and put his head down bugled and proceeded to angle downwind, I looked and found an opening ahead of him and settled my sights as he stepped into the lane, I let the arrow go and he took the shot, the arrow buried up past the fletch to the lighted nock, he bolted forward the 20 or so yards to stop directly to my left at about 15 feet, he was standing facing directly away from me, he swung his head to look at the glowing red nock and blood welling from the wound from the arrow that was buried in his side, I had already nocked a second arrow, and saw his front shoulder as he swung his head and drew my Hoyt (which seemed much more difficult due to the adrenaline and the fact I didnt want him to see me) I did my best to settled the pin with a few small alders and bushes between us and released a second arrow. He took off on a dead run busting brush hard as he went. I cow called several times to attempt to slow him down , it went quiet and I pulled out my bugle and let out three short bugles to let my partner know it was time to come forward. The bull had went about 75 yards and piled up. My partner had explained he had yet another bull coming in from behind him the whole time, talk about a great multi bull encounter.

We had started to pose him for pics and noticed the other bull had moved up not far from where I took the original shot, We debated setting up on the second bull, but decided with the amount of work ahead of us and the warm forecast it would be best to get this one out of the bush and into the cooler. 4 hours after we had him in the truck and off to the cooler.

Congrats everyone. I managed to make it out the other day and didnt get a shot at anything (I stopped to take a leak and when I looked up there were 2 does looking at me from about 75 yards away) later on when putting a stalk on a coyote I stumbled on these while trying to intercept him through a tree line.
