Default Can anyone clarify the fish quota?

I know that you are able to retain 5 fish a day, and that fish that are not consumed count towards that (frozen ect.) and also that if you are camping, however long you stay is counted as 1 day.
But is there an over all maximum amount of fish you are allowed to keep monthly/weekly/yearly? I recently started fishing and have been going fishing almost daily (i've only kept 6 so far over the past 3ish weeks) so, theoretically, could i catch 5 fish a day, eat them all that night then go back the next day and catch 5 more? I called my local fish and wildlife office but no answer so i thought i'd just ask here.

There is no weekly/monthly/yearly limit but you do need to eat the fish before you can keep more. So at any time you can only have 5 trout(assuming you are talking trout hence 5 limit) anywhere in your possession.

Also something more to be aware of that many people don't realize is that the 5 trout limit is all trout species combined. You can't have 5 rainbows and 5 brookies etc. You can only have 5 total and there are further limitations such as only 3 lake trout.

It sounds like you have a pretty good understanding.

If you still had all six fish in your freezer you would be over the limit. On the other hand you could eat 5 rainbow trout a night for the whole season.

Assuming of course they were all legally caught.

The obvious exception would be fishing walleye where you need to have tags to retain any. Which is a season limit not a day limit.

Hope this helps

Alright thank you guys, that cleared it up. And yes, I've only been taking the one type of trout (rainbow).

Lots of rivers and lakes have limits for walleye and a tag is not needed.
Edit. Read it wrong, you are correct.

Just curious. Where does it say that?

C. For other PP2 Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds not included under (A) or (B) and for fish species not mentioned at a listed lake.
Open all year – Walleye limit 3 over 50 cm; Pike limit 3 over 63 cm; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 2 (Burbot limit 0 - Feb. 1 to Mar. 31); (where present, Trout limit 5; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm); Bait allowed.

I read this as saying that they are allowed in some lakes etc.

That's what he said as well.

I was just saying how tags were one time limit not daily limit.

He kind of worded it where it could mean two things. But yes, not every lake needs tags to retain walleye
