Default Ironwill Broadhead w. 6mm fmj

Hi, just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with the ironwill broadheads in combination with the fmj. Specifically, I am looking at using the 100grain vented Broadhead on my 320 spine 6mm fmj. Wondering if anyone out there has used this combo, and if so, did you use the collars that ironwill also produces? I really just like the idea of swapping my 100grain field point for the Broadhead and not adding the extra weight of the collar.
I suppose I should add that I am shooting a 320 spine 6mm fmj with 65lbs and 27.5DL, and will be hunting elk, whitetail and black bear.
Any input on ironwill/fmj combo or just the ironwill broadheads themselves would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Jason.

I know a buddy who was using that head and had one take an odd deflection on a moose’s rib cage. Basically caught a rib changed direction and rode the outside deflecting down and out. Moose not recovered.

What's your arrow length? 320 spine seems stiff. Arrow seems a tad heavy at that spine as well definitely wouldn't add a collar. FOC will be pretty low. Besides that I have heard ironwills are loud but no first hand experience.

I can't speak to your specific setup. I currently run the axis match grade with the impact collar. The heads are awesome and group exceptionally well. I would guess that the moose deflection referenced earlier was a severe quartering away shot and any fixed blade broadhead would have suffered a similar fate (an expandable likely worse). I always hate comparing heads based on anecdotal hunting stories (good or bad), because it is sort of like asking a golfer if he likes a course after he shot a bad round. They are certainly quality heads (although pricey). If there is a downside it is that they will rust pretty quickly in wet environments. I would treat them with vaseline or valkerie sells a similar product specifically designed for their heads which are made out of similar material prior to season.

I have made some successful “hard” quartering away shots with expandables and had great results (40 yards diagonally through a bull elk full pass through). Not all heads will work in all circumstances, I have seen fixed blade heads deflect on quartering shots too. I don’t know many folks using ironwill but the one I do had the experience I described. I am just not a 2 blade fan, I like a “hole” with flaps, not a slit personally.

Nothing special about those heads.....except maybe the price and the hype!

Check out NEW Muzzy 1.

All machined....3 blade...1/4 the price!

I killed a mule deer buck with the v100 ironwills last fall. Arrow passed through the deer and stuck 10” in the sand on the other side. Broadhead was still sharp and good to go after a bit of cleaning. I wouldn’t hesitate to touch it up an bit and shoot again this year, more than I can say for any of the expandables or cheaper fixed blades I’ve shot. Expensive but worth it so far.

As for noise, I videoed shooting the head into a block target and there’s a bit of a hiss compared to a field point. If that’s an issue, the solids are supposed to be quieter, and they make them in 100gr now.

I carry 3 Ironwills and three deadmeats in my quiver. Ironwills get the call on all but the windiest days. Deadmeats are there as cheap follow ups, if needed.
