Default Rabbit fur left on?

Planning to go Rabbit hunting this holiday season and im wondering if i have problems skinning them(if i get any) can i freeze them with fur and guts in and skin the when i get home. Would this be bad? Would freezing them, warming them to skin and then freezing them, then cooking them be bad?

Thanks
TheKi

If it was me, I would pop the guts out if I was going to let them freeze. Hide can stay on. But that's just me.

Default Rabbit Saddle

I would only take the back legs, the rest is a little stringy.

It takes about 2 minutes to skin and gut a rabbit

Do it right away. If you need instruction, pm me

I remember watching my cousin's skinning rabbits back home, kind of funny. They would make a cut near the rabbits paw and blow it up like a balloon. Skin came off pretty easy after that.

If you are saving the fur, its a bit different

There is no issue with taking them home and then doing them there.

It's not very often I find one that's not frozen in my snares and they all eat pretty good.

I don't keep the fur but tubing it is a good way to go. Do the back legs first and then tie them to something and pull the skin towards you as you skin it if you want to keep it.

1. hang rabbit upside down from hind legs spread
2. cut around knees
3. pull fur down each leg down to the crotch
4. carefully cut around crotch so you don't cut the ummmm .. pee hole
5. continue down torso with fur, breaking arms off at elbows to leave with the fur.
6. cut off neck leaving head and fur attached, you'll end with the head in the inside out fur.

no blood exposed (if you want the fur)until you are ready to cut the gut open. Cut around the basket and there's a good handful of innards, be careful not to break the urinary tract, if you get it on the meat, you'll ruin it.

Use to do it all the time, takes 5 min / rabbit once you get the hang of it.

I wouldn;t freeze the rabbit with skin on, unless you just talking about it freezing on the way home?? we use to snare them and they'd lay dead in the snare for the night freezing soild sometimes, I never had any problems.fresh rabbits are WAY easier to skin, do it in the field while they are real fresh and the skin practically falls off.

hope this helps

Makes zero difference, except for convenience.

We can talk about it all we want, but seeing it on Youtube is definetly the way to go... did that for my first rabbit, and did it easy in ~15 minutes... Now, 5 min, tops

grab the rabbit by the back about mid-body, then insert your knife through the skin. then grab both sides of the cut you made and pull, when the skin gets around the head and paws use a hatchet to chop them off at the elbows, knees and neck, then gut as normal and your done, takes literally 2 minutes to finish a rabbit

pull down both legs exposing the leg in the middle, once you hit the crotch, slit the insides of the leg fur,cut across the crotch and continue on, you'll end up with a tube of fur with a head in it, cleanest way to do in in my opinion. I'll come show you for a rabbit, depending on location or course

First part of skinning a rabbit is getting a rabbit
