What bullet were you using and how was it on the pelt. I am thinking about using my 260 for yotes this year.

I was using 140 amax coyote was quartering away close to 200m in the edge of a group of willows. Didn't have the best shot hit him just in front of the rear leg exit just behind the front leg. Exit wound was about 3in around. I am going to keep the hide first one I've tried to salvage. I loaded these up with the intent of using them on deer wouldn't be my first choice on coyote. But haven't got a chance to load up anything different yet I have a bunch of Berger 140 hybrids I want to use should be deadly on Coyote and hopefully not make a huge exit wound.

I just about ordered a 260 for coyotes, but opted for a 243. 260 is a rad cartridge. Congrats.

I have used 6.5mm 140gr Bergers on yotes and they are the farthest thing from fur friendly as they get. I would look for a different bullet myself.

I used a 130 gr Berger vld on a coyote and it pretty much ended up with two halves. It kills them but its not pretty. Accubonds do a nice job as far as being fur friendly.

Were you using the Berger hunting or target bullets I know their hunting bullets have a reputation for explosive expansion. This is primarily a target rifle and I bought 600 of the hybrid target bullets for long range shooting. They are actually not recommend for hunting that's why I didn't load them for deer but figured they would be fine for coyotes on occasion. I also bought some 130gr hunting VLDs but couldn't get them to shoot well in my rifle.

Did you use a VLD seating die?

I played with two seating dies the lee wouldn't work tip was hitting in the stem. The RCBS die worked tip of the bullet wasn't hitting. I haven't had much time to work up a load for this rifle yet ran out of time before hunting season luckily found a load in first try with the 140amax that shows potential to be solid 1/2moa. I am sure with a bit more work I could get the 130s to shoot I think that would be a awesome deer combo.

I use Redding dies and had to get the VLD seater to maintain consistent seating depth.

I used the vld target. Not a planned hunt. I got accubonds now. And I modified my seater plug on my rcbs die. I use lee collet die for sizing.

Humm wasn't planning on keeping many pelts any ways just wanted to try it out once. See how this one goes maybe I'll change my mind. Thinking of putting this one on the wall if all goes well. I really don't want to start messing around with a bunch of different loads.

I used 140gr accubonds from my 270wsm and that was fur friendly. Can't find in 6.5 for the 260 or I would use them. There a bit pricey but if I want to save the hide and use my 260 that's what I will try. When I find some.

The amax works well on varmints in my experience. Used them in the .270win and in .223 and .22-250.....the .224 bullets are good if you don't hit bone, the .277 well let's say they are not fur friendly but not much is in a .277 bullet

Yeah 6.5 bullets have been a bit hard to find. I think I'll keep using the amaxs for hunting but might try some acubonds if I can find them.
