Default New PAL Wait Time

Submitted my application Aug. 29 and still waiting...

Quick question for those who recently received their PAL - how long did your application take to get approved from the time it was accepted? When did you submit?

Default Pal

Dont have to wait for your pal to go hunting. Id focus on getting your hunters education course first, which is mandatory if you are a new hunter. Then go buy a bow off of kijiji or go with a buddy with a few rifles and your off to the races.
I heard it can take any where from 3-6month to get your pal after you send it in. Mine took 2 a while back

I recall when I got mine a few years back that there was a delay as well, possibly 2-3 months and that was in the summer. I am assuming they are rammed with paperwork and application, especially this time of year.

One thing I would suggest (which somehow resulted in my references being called the next day and the PAL arriving shortly thereafter) was to simply place a call to the office and confirm that the documentation was received and to inquire about the status. It was likely coincidence, but it sure was interesting. Just a thought.

If you're lucky enough to actually get a status update, request the reference number for your application. You can then forward that number on to your references(and spouse if applicable) who can call in with it and get their interviews out of the way quicker.

That said wait times with them seem directly dependent on how pressing the matter is. Waiting for my PAL and calling for an update I was on hold for almost an hour. Calling to change my address, 30 seconds. Just make sure you block enough time.

X2 on calling them. Mine was in for a couple months I believe and then when I called they said they hadn't gotten to it. When I received it I noticed it was mailed out the day after I called.

I submitted mine on Aug. 16, got in by Oct 5ish. Mine was delayed for a few days due to they couldn't process my Visa. But soon after I cleared it up on phone with them. They delivered my pal in 5 days.

Just called them up... I am in the same boat.

Lady said that it is usually about 4-5 weeks for your application to even enter their system. Then it also varies in approval time whether you are a first time applicant (longer), renewing, and also non-restricted v. restricted. Asked her if there were any ways to speed up the process and she said to try and make that your references pick up the phone and also return the phone call if they miss it.

Wish I would have jumped on it in the summer rather than waiting till now...

I submitted my application on July 17th and have yet to receive my PAL. I have called numerous times, pretty much weekly and have not gotten anywhere. They always say the same thing. Although the last person I spoke with said it is just now been assigned to a specific firearms officer. I am beginning to lose hope. :/ Hope you get yours soon!

"Trigger 14"
Go online to http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/f...renouv-eng.htm

My PAL was to expire Nov 22 2014. I went online. filled out the paperwork, printed it off, went to Wally World for pic, put everything in an envelope and it just so happened I had a course in Gagetown N.B. from 3 Sept to 4 Oct.
I mailed it on the 5th of Sept.
When I got home on the 4th of Oct it was in that weeks mail.
My wait time was like 30+ days.

Again, not to derail but trigger14 if you click on the "renew online" on the link that Huntsman provided it will explain the process. They will notify you about 3 months in advance of your expiry date. I had a buddy take my pic on my camera, downloaded it, sent it in with my online app(theres a request to upload pics) and had my renewed licence in hand in 10 days.

Hard to believe they haven't updated the method for NEW licences.

That's good to hear, missed the rifle hunting season because my PAL expired and I was unaware until I went to buy shells on Nov4th. Mailed out my renewal last Friday, WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS AND A LOAD OF HORSE----!
