Would this not work to ensure the deer stayed in the original pick up truck.

That's another thing I found odd about the story. If a truck that's been parked, occupied, apparently watching me suddenly blocks a bottleneck and three guys jump out and run up to my vehicle, there's no way they're getting a chance to pull me out. Doors would be locked immediately, and I'd be doing some pretty fancy driving to get out of there. And yes, he was armed as a last resort. Not saying shooting somebody is worth it to save your deer harvest, but in the scenario he described, he didn't know what they were after until they already had him subdued.

Think about it.
You step out of your truck to see what's up, you get jumped. The gun is in the truck, quite possibly in a case, you're held down while 2 others swap the deer over, once it's over your punched in the gut or head, the last guy jumps in and they drive off. Maybe even they locked him out of his own truck? Who the heck knows, a lot of "stuff" could have gone on.
I have no friggin way of knowing how it may or may not have played out, as do the rest of the macho men on here.
I don't doubt it happened, why, or actually how, is what I'd like to find out.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?
kudos to the guy for not ... introducing some fresh air to the back of the offenders cab...very true that its not worth it.
So now we have to be on guard every time a truck pulls up to talk? ridiculous...things in this province have got to change.

This post puts me in mind of the recent post about two guys pulling a deer out of the bush after dark and a shooter hitting the deer twice. I had a lot of trouble believing that post and I have a lot of trouble believing this post. If this guy is to believed, the bad guys let him have a clear look at them. Surely, if a bad guy was going to do something like this he would try to cover his face. If this was a trophy deer, I might give it a little more credit. Who in their right mind would commit robbery over this deer?

Your post made me think of something else as well. The guy gives a description of the truck, but absolutely no description of the alleged perpetrators. Seems like something I'd put in my Facebook post about the incident, front and center.
Dick, I'm not trying to be a jerk, and if the alleged victim were here among us I probably wouldn't be so candid about my doubts, but as your thread title says, the incident is pretty "unbelievable". Let us know what you hear from your friends and LEOs about this, if you can.

Some meatheads that think they own everything. Likely some country bumkin that's never travelled more than 5 miles outta town and that can't think/logic past the end of their noses. You know. The type that show up at the bar just about every weekend just itching for a fight...just cause. Your faith in your fellow man is far bigger than mine. I have seen and heard way too much to discount this story in any way shape or form. Consider all the incidents that have happened in the bush at campgrounds etc. There is no shortage of people that will do extremely stupid things specially in a rural area where they think the chance of getting caught is minimal. I suspect these guys if caught will turn out to be the school bullies of 2005. Old habits die hard.

I will accept this comment. I am 62 and may be out of touch with what is happening. Bad guys must be slipping though. In my day anybody trying this would have for sure covered their face and relieved the guy of his gun. Back in the day some of the guys I knew would have shot the back window out of this truck as they drove away. When I think about it I know of some guys that would do it today. I would have thought any smart bad guy would taken the guys cell phone. With in minutes of these guys relieving this guy of his deer he could have given an excellent description to the police and conservation officers of the truck and bad guys. Sorry for my innocence.

If this actually did happen the way it was described it's pretty scary.
What makes people do this? Don't they fear a hail of bullets!

Confirmed from a member of the local constabulary that indeed a file has been started on this theft.
No more details can be shared.

Definitely sounds unbelievable, but unfortunately I have heard an unverified similar story in the US. Not stopping a truck, but walking in armed in numbers and taking deer. No force and no shots involved, threats only.
... freaking crazy! I'd like to say I wouldn't stand for it, but then really it's just a deer. I'd rather not fill out a thousand police reports & court appearances/lawyers, etc., because I shot at their truck as they left, nor would I want to be shot or whatever over it. Sucks, but priorities!

In the heat of the moment you react.
How you react will depend on your experience.
If you do not fear death and can assess the environment do what is necessary.
If you can balance the outcome and how it will influence your life in the real world do it.
I have found posturing only works if you are committed.
I am healing.

If 3 guys jump a hunter and steal his deer, i hope they are dumb enough to brag about it and they get caught. Up until now I would have never thought this could happen when a truck pulls up.

Why no more details. You would think every possible detail would be released to the public. There were three guys in this truck. What did they look like? Any distinguishing characteristics like a tattoo or a different hair cut? What were they wearing? Good chance someone here could identify these guys if we had a description of them. I still have a lot of trouble believing this story.

It's called an in investigation...at this point likely the deer is not the focus but the means in which it was obtained is. They can't go throwing out all the info until they have it...due course.
