Default Thankful for the Hunting Opportunities BC & AB

You know i just have to say How Thankful I am for the Hunting Opportunities i have been able to partake on this past season of 2014. I am talking BC and Alberta. I have hunter Hosted friends here and also been on hunter host /Permit to accompany Hunts in British Columbia ..

I have learned lots from these fellas there and they have learned and enjoyed Albertas varying landscape from Myself..

Anyway i was able to put together a Hunt for my Older Brother and myself in Northern BC with two Buddies.
We would share the costs 4 ways and meet up at Valemount where all 4 of us hopped in the Truck with the BC licence plate where we continued North on our 26 hr drive..

We Flew out of Dease Lake over some amazing colourful landscape to our Lake that just happened to have a cabin on it , with use respect rules, leave it the way you found it or better and replace the wood you burn.

It was a great time with the Boys, The BC gang hunted Goat and Stone Sheep and we focused on Caribou, Goat and Moose.

We came home with some memorable animals and the 2014 season had begun..

I took my Bull Last day when were actually headed out for Goats my Buddy missed with his bow earlier in the hunt..
This whole trip was about getting my Brother his first Mountain Caribou and thats just what he got..

It was a great feeling headed home with meat and racks in the back...

Once back in cell service i heard my son who is part of the DTO gang had arrowed his first archery Muley Buck in Velvet early September...

What a great start for my Hunting Family for the this year..

It would be the end of September before my youngest son and i would get to hunt together and we put his first Antelope on the ground..It was a great hunt and i filmed the whole thing..

I was also Hosting a long time BC friend on this hunt for his Pronghorn..Poor guy is in need of 2 new hips and he was not about to miss out on this priority 10 tag..

With 2 Bucks down on Opening day i could finally get a chance to open the Bow case once we got to Elk camp which was 3 hrs North..
Steve headed for Sugar Creek Taxidermy with our Capes and Horns then carried on back home to BC..
My son and i considered staying put and hunting Elk but we had made a commitment and off we went with our Antelope in the Cooler on Blocks of ice..

It was very windy on this hunt when we joined up with My oldest son and the Elk whisperer who lives in the area..
We only saw 1 Elk and after my Oldest son missed this Bull I managed to put a couple arrows in him and closed another tag..

we would have to supplement our bowhunting and Pheasant hunting for the month of October around home..

We would spend some time trying to close my middle sons Moose tag , He was new to Bowhunting and , well when i called 2 Bulls in he never got the arrow in him so would switch over to rifle and the second last day he knocked one down..
his First Moose.

I managed to rattle in a small Whitetail Buck the middle of November on a very Cold evening and that would be my last tag to close..

Again we live in an area that opportunities are there for us to enjoy the Great Outdoors and i for one am so Thankful to shared these Hunts and made the memories and past on to my sons how to Hunt , properly field dress , Hang and process our own game..

Congrats to all the other Hunters out there that harvested their game and enjoyed what opportunities we can share ..

The Euros are almost done in my shop and the capes & antlers are at Sugar Creek in Marco's hands ....

My only regret from this past season is not being able to fly this Moose Rack out with us from the Caribou hunt...
It would have cost me another flight and i guess it was not meant to be..

Congrats to you and your sons on what looks like a spectacular season. Very nice pics. I agree with you that we are blessed with having so many hunting oppurtunities here in Alberta. It is also great to be able to hunt in both BC and AB.

Ha Ha good one Pack...I just can't imagine the size of Bull that stood under that rack.. I wonder if it was a Bull shot by a Hunter because i found it beside the lake, that maybe they were going to come back for it and something happened that they couldn't.. For an Antler nut like myself , believe me it was tough leaving it behind , It also was a very busy last day killing ,packing and caping for our flight out in the morning...

I actually spotted the rack across from the lake when i was looking at this faraway Grizzly, had them both in my Binos at the same time..

That's a fantastic year for you, your family and friends. Congratulations on your successes Phil!
You are a true sportsman and a great guy to boot. One of these years we have to team up for an elk or sheep hunt.

Merry christmas

Yes that Grizzly was a tank and we had visions of him visiting us while we were packing out my Brothers Caribou..We actually saw a big Wolverine as well when we were stalking the Bou..
There was 2 Grizzlies in the area and surprising they never touched the Caribou remains ?? There were so many berries that is what they were concentrating on..

Hey Ken i would Love to finally do that wagon trip..

Heres some Euros from the year the Bou are getting Mounted and we lucked out enough that we got them home in good enough shape for Marco to save the Velvet.. with a high quality I-phone pic..

What a terrific year you've had! Congrats. Isn't it great to be able to share our opportunities and make wonderful memories with friends and family that, with different rules, we may not otherwise be able to. Thanks for posting and good luck in the future.
