Default Heading to Cold lake for June 1st, any tips for early season?

Going to try cold lake for the first time June 1st, have downriggers and such just need to know what to use. We have a few Williams spoons 6" and some 6.5" five of diamonds to drag around, just wondering if they are interested in apex and flasher combos?

Any tips would really be appreciated.

Thx.

Fish will be near the surface. Flatlining with spoons works good. Kitimat, half wave, cleo work good. Should be no need for the heavy equipment yet. Also jigging with cold lake specials works good too. Save on fuel.

Various sized spoons will work, apex and flashers will work, crankbaits will work, jigging will work, cut plugs will work, herring rigs will work, anchovies rigs will work, just about anything you can think of works at Cold lake. With the ice just off the lake the fish will be spread out more than in the late summer so in some ways they are harder to catch. You will find lakers in shallow as well as deep water in the spring as opposed to late summer.

I'm sure you already know this, but it can be very long rough ride home on Cold Lake if the weather turns on you. Because to the airport there I believe they have hourly updates on the weather that you can call in for which might be a good idea if your fishing the far side of the lake.

Good Luck to you

Thanks for the tip! As for rough water, we have a 20ft boat built for the west coast so it should handle some pretty nasty weather.
