Default Walleye still have eggs in Forty Mile

Caught a walleye in Forty Mile on May 8th and it was full of eggs. Should they not have spawned already? Does this mean they will not spawn this year? We also landed a couple very fat pike that I suspect were full of eggs as well. Hopefully some of the fish were able to spawn this year at Forty Mile and the other lakes in the area.

Most of the month of may is spawn time for Walleye, up north it runs into June a bit as well. pike spawn around the same time.

I believe the females come a week or two later. I always seemed to catch the big females towards the end of May and beginning of June. That's in the NSR. SSR should be similar.

I thought pike spawned in April? Isn't that why all the lakes are closed around that time?

Walleye typically spawn when the water is in the 42-45F degree range, and will hold until water reaches that temp.

I always thought the walleye spawned early.... Like just as the ice is going off early?
