From Dave Staples of the Journal:

By the way, I came across a leaked document from the NHL that may be of interest in Edmonton:

To: All NHL officials

Subject: The Cali Rules

1.Players on California-based teams in games within the state of California are allowed to trip Leon Draisaitl with impunity

2.They are also allowed to hold or hook Connor McDavid with impunity.

3.If they are also named Drew Doughty, they can trip, hold and hook any
Oilers player with impunity.

4.Always ask yourself before making a call: “What do I say to Corey?”

5.Pushing Connor McDavid into the goalposts shall result in a minor penalty … to McDavid if he complains.

6.Sitting on the opposition goalie is allowed, especially in last seconds of a tie game.

I know his play had declined over the last several years, and to be fair, NJ wasn't very good, but I was quite surprised when I heard he retired at 33. Though someone would have given him a shot on a cheap contract/show me deal.

It has also been rumored that he can be a bit of a cancer in the dressing room, given that 32 teams all passed on giving him any kind of a shot leads me to believe there may be some truth to it.

Default Subban

As a NJ fan all my life. I have never been so happy to see Subban off the team. Whenever there was a goal against. guess who was on the ice at the time? With him leaving also freed up 9 million to invest elsewhere.
Edmonton's D would only get worse with him on the team

Would have been nice to see him get the shutout, for sure. 13 played his best game in quite some time. Now on to Lost Wages we go.

GO OIL!!

11 hits vs 29. Some teams have a couple of guys who can deliver 11 combined every/every other game.

Too busy hitting. Not busy enough scoring.

That’s true, but the fact remains.

Not really. He's been junk for a couple of years and does nothing for a team looking to develop its young D prospects.

That glove save he made off of the pickle was grand larceny. He still looks a little shaky to me in net particular when the puck is in behind the net. Hopefully these 2 wins in a row get him back on track.

Seeing some great forechecking prowess and patience by a number of the 2nd and 3rd lines. 13 seems to be putting something together too.

That's okay. Very good first period by the crew. Play that way for 3 solid and you win.

Yes it was a great win, leading going into the 3rd and they closed it out against a 1st place team, nice to see, we need to go on a 6 or 7 game win streak here.

Last three games by Campbell have been encouraging. We really need him to go on a run. We were playing Skinner too much for a rookie and it was showing I felt. Lots of encouraging signs, not the least of which is the development of Bromberg. Starting to look like a smooth defender. Injuries have sure slowed his development. Don’t wanna trade a kid who hasn’t had enough games to show what he is really gonna be.

It’s as if the oilers strung 2 or 3 wins in a row together…… love the enthusiasm. One more win and we can start discussing 3rd round playoffs! Stoodis!

Baby steps, Baby steps a 3 game winning streak is something to be optimistic about, heck we didn't even play tonight and jumped over the flamers in the standings.
