Default Vanguard spotters

Anyone out there have first hand experience with these optics? Looking for a reasonable spotter in the 500 range. This seemed to fit but I am worried about the quality/clarity.

Default spotters

for the money, I still think Nikon is the most under-rated glass out there. I was just looking at the sale currently running at McBain camera that someone else started a thread on here. It was all I could do to walk away from clicking on the nikon spotter. The whole package for under 500.00. Insane deal.

Tested the Vanguard spotting scopes........not impressed at all.

The Nikon is a great scope for the money.

Id check out Celestron if your looking for a budget spotter. I got the Ultima and am quite impressed with it for 200 bucks. They also make a Regal which gets good reviews. In saying that I was expecting my Celestron to be a paperweight, so maybe thats why Im impressed.

If you do buy the Ultima and have a 600 dollar budget. Id buy the Baader Hyperion Zoom eye piece as well. It supposedly takes the Ultima to a new level as the big glass in the main body of the spotters is relatively easy and cheap to make. It's the small glass in the eye piece where companies cut the cost, and from what Ive read the cheaper scopes actually come with plastic lenses. Where as the Baader has 9 glass lenses. This will be my next upgrade once I get a bit of cash in hand.

Also check out the Vortex Diamondback spotter. If it's as good as their bino's Im sure you'll be happy with it.

Hopefully it works out for you. At least if you dont like it, you can send it back. Ive never looked through a Nikon optic I liked, so will be interested to hear what your thoughts are on the spotter. I tried out their Monarch 7's when looking for Bino's and they had black spots, and hard to focus. Which sucked as they were on sale at a great price.

It seems to me with Nikon people either love them or hate them.

Thanks. I've been sitting on the fence about getting a meopta s2 but I'd like to hear how you like your Nikon.
