Default Pryamid lake

So today at my trip to Jasper I got about half hour of fishing in at Pyramid lake. It was mt 1st time fishing there. I managed to catch 2 small rainbows from shore! They sure put up more of a fight than the ones at the local trout ponds and they sure look healthier. Does anyone know if those bows at pyramid are natural or they stock the lake?

PC did stock in mountain lakes from 1901 until 1972. Banff stopped stocking in 1988. They no longer stock mountain lakes but will stock other Nat'l parks when necessary.

There hasn't been any stocking in Jasper National Park since, I think, 1988. So the fish you caught is a wild fish, but it's original ancestry would be from stocked fish, as there were never ant trout in the lake to begin with. Just curious, what did you catch them on?

There are several creeks flowing into the lake, and one outflow. Originally, there was an outflow that flowed into Patricia Lake, but, unfortunately, it was damned a long time ago. Too bad, as I think it would make a good spawning channel between the two lakes if it was ever "re-opened".

88 was the last year for stocking. There is spawning occuring that is keeping a small population of Rainbows. The Rainbows came from the Fairy's ..
Maybe the lake will have or hassome big Rainbows today.

Lakers were first planted in Pyramid in 1917

nice production for half an hour! We hit opening morning (saw Big Bull's truck there, if I'm not mistaken) and after 5 hours of different strategies...BAM! My buddy hauled in a 20 inch laker. Trolled Moab later that day and brought in a few rainbows and one smaller lake trout. All in all a great start to the season!

There are also splake in pyramid lake. Most of the creeks entering are on the side where the marsh is so to the left when standing on the dock. I lived in Jasper for 14 years and many lakes were ummmmmm stocked with extra bags of fish that we never recorded and thats all I will say about that

Ummmmmm Lower Colefair and Keith Lakes sorta got some unknown trout in them years ago. Last time I was at Colefair they were about 10 Lbs. On another note FYI the 1st lake in the Valley of the 5 lakes has monster rainbows and thats most likely where the Alberta Record came from and not maligne lake but who knows for sure

The only 'natural' strain of rainbows in all of Alberta is in the Athabasca river.
Everywhere else they are, they have been from stocking. Whether is was a hundred years ago, or 1 year ago.

Either way, Pyramid Lake is always a nice place to fish!!

Default Rainbow on the fly

On Saturday I fished the mouth of the Athabasca and the Snaring and then up the Snaring for a few kms. Skunked. Was fishing clousers trying to get into a nice Bull. Went into Jasper to recharge and went up to Pyramid Lake. Wading the shallows and casting a prince, hooked into this beauty.

You must have seen my old truck with the AO Forum decal. I sold it to Currie's Guiding.
