Thumbs up N.s.R report 20,10,2012, pics, rocky mountain whitefish and more.

Hit the N.s.R this evening, was a great evening, landed 4 species of fish, one sucker, my first Rocky Mountain Whitefish from the N.s.R system and my biggest Rocky Mountain Whitefish to date at 18 inches in length, some walleye and pike as well, made way for a great evening, water is freezing cold, low and clear.
Just got to the spot, wondering if the fish are going to bite and if it is worth freezing for but it clearly was all worth it as it usually always is.

Buck Krazy .. the spine one is a Walleye/if colored differn,t a Sauger and the Carp as you call is a Sucker ,,there are 5 differn,t spieces of Sucker in the NSR

Quote

Five species of sucker can be caught in the river: silver redhorse, shorthead redhorse, quillback, white and longnose sucker. The mountain sucker is also occasionally caught in the Edmonton area. All are easily identified as suckers by their thick downward pointing lips which they use to suck food from the river bottom. Suckers weighing up to 3.66 kg have been caught in the North Saskatchewan River.

Food for Thought

Was out there tonight and spoke with waterninja. I had some bad ice issues. Going to try and stop casting and retrieving next time. Anyway, was good meeting you waterninja and I hope you had better luck than I. I was pretty warm but my old lady was getting chilly.

it was nice meeting a new member tonight (stupid deep). i had some icing problems also and it was the top eyelet of the rod. (we never thought of that). it actually got warmer after you left so no problems. ended up with 4 pike and 5 wallies.
next time we start a fire so your lady stays warm.

Next time she'll dress appropriately haha. She likes coming down to watch the beavers and the waterfowl haha. I ended up having to cut away a lot of line because when it froze it wouldnt spool properly and it knotted really bad.
