Have not been there for years, but used to get some really big pike and whitefish. I remember putting nets under the ice and pulling out some unbelievable hauls of huge whitefish. I recall one net having over 100 big whites and 5 massive pike. In the summers, I remember watching big pike cruising under the lily pads and snapping the perch off our lines.

a friend who is living in the area said most of the lakes are heavy with snow and thus floodwater. bring the insulated rubber boots and dont count on being able to drive onto the lake

I was at Snipe a couple day's ago. Really slow in the morning but we arrived late around 9:30. Caught a couple nice Perch in the afternoon. Moved to the Pike area later in the day and it was dead until about 4:30. All of a sudden at 4:30 it went crazy!!! We could not get the tip-ups down quick enough. I only kept 1 13 pounder but threw back many between 5 and 10 pounds. My Uncle and cousin took home their limits all 10 pounds plus. Keep in mind when fishing there that there is a hook size limit!! The hook can only be 10 mm from the shaft.

Hey Gober
what do you classify as a pike spot on Snipe I have fished there several times and all I get are whitefish and lots of them. I am not looking for you're spots rather a depth of water or how far or close to the weeds do you put the tip ups in that lake? if you could enlighten me as to a strategy for that lake it would be greatly appreciated. I fished there just before xmas and all I caught was 12 whitefish but they were all good size and didn't get a hit on my tip up.

Ive fished the north side by the outlet creek in about 10 feet of water and hit some big pike. Two over 15 pounds. Never found the whitefish though. Do you fish the south side for them?

On the north side of the lake straight out from the boat launch and a bit to the left. We always have luck for Pike in this area. If you go and you see people that look like they are too far out from shore on the north side they are targeting Pike. You should be in 10 - 15 fow.

You should be able to get on the lake at the campground on the south side, haven't been there this year though, so not sure what it'll be like...

Heading out to Snipe on Saturday and just looking for updates on access to the lake and snow on the lake. How's the driving on the lake. Any snow. Updates on how the fishing has been would be very nice as well.
Thank you.

a group of guys from work went there a few days ago.Lots of ice(3 feet plus in places) access is good except the odd snow drifts if you stray from the main trails.
The fishing was medium to slow . They had a bit of action throughout the day.I believe they moved around a bit, but not steadily to find fish. The weather was very nice though.
hope this helps and good luck

Thanks GummyMonster. Is that info for the north or south side. I'm sure it would be the same on either side but just wondering.
Thanks

I'll probably be heading out that way this weekend. I'll let you know what I find. Not sure if I'll bring the gear as I'll be hunting with my dad, but you never know.

Thanks, He already got his moose last week, and didn't have a stroke the day after so this year is much better then last. The old coot, went deer hunting as soon as he got out of the hospital after that too.

Sounds tough as nails I too am in full hunting mode but am keenly interested in Snipe ice reports. Please do post if you find time to make it out there. Thanks!

Sitting at the community campsite, ice near shore is kinda rotten, but it held. Cracked a bit when I put some stress on it but didn't collapse. That's a prety big coyote about 150 yards out. Wish I brought my gear.

Another cold night in High Prairie. Ice should be good enough to walk on. Critters are and I did. Not sure exactly how thick it is but I can safely say there is at least 3 inches near shore where it hasn't been stressed by wind and the few inches of snow.
