Default bear hide?

hello,
i understand from the regs that if i were to shoot and tag a black bear that youre not allowed to let the hide go to waste...well what if i only want the bear for meat..what do you do with the hide...is bear meat any good at all..ive heard mixed opinions..

You can give the hide away. I like bear meat, but it depends on what it has been eating.

Sweet berries and grains=good bear.
stinky bear bait, dump fed=gross bear.

I don't know what to say about the hide.

As for the meat I'm one of those who love it. It's the primary reason I hunt bear. Meat and fat to make soap actually. Most braised meat recipes do great for bear (those that involve wine or beer are best, of course).

Believe you can turn it in to a f&w office, but check with them first. If its in good condition you can sell it to a fur buyer or taxidermist with the appropriate license.
