Default The calves can sleep easy

Two of my good buddies and I headed north this past weekend to try our luck at an elk. What started out as an elk soon developed into a bear hunt as we were cresting a hill we could see a black spot feeding out in the distance. As the stalk was on what started out as a bear hunt soon developed into a wolf hunt. Out of the corner of my eye I had spotted some movement so up went the binos and two wolves were spotted bedded down near a creek bed.

We changed direction towards these two wolves which as we got closer became a pack of 5. We got to within 200 yards and decided we wouldn't push our luck anymore by attempting to get closer. We all decided which wolf we would shoot at first. Unless you're cowboybob nothing prepares you for a wolf in your scope. 3 clean misses... Great start. As the pack bolted one wolf stood up and starred at us. The same mistake was not made twice as the wolf dropped in her tracks. Unfortunately we were unable to connect on any other wolves. It was a great start to the trip and definitely a bucket list animal.

Started out as an elk hunt? Well that explains the mess. LOL I was going to ask you what you used. Didn't think it was a .223.

Congrats! May only be a young adult but no doubt it would have been eating ungulates.
