There is no perfect bullet for pelting. Only shot placement makes for good pelts. I have killed 90 coyotes this year with everything from .223 to 300wsm. And if i didn't hit spine or leg bones on enterance the pelts where fine. That being said I prefer .223 with hornady 55gr sp or Vmax. and 58gr V max in a 243.

Default works for me

17 hmr I dont shoot over 100 yards , no fur damage . you really have to know your gun. shot placement is huge. I like aiming for vitials. bigger target and if you hit the lungs. Head shots cause alot of bleeding which makes a mess when skinning. Head shots small target and it better be a good shot, most times moving target. I have a 223 also with which i started with .most times big holes alot of sewing. have seen a 22 250 in action, very inpressed will be buying one with my fur money feb sale. This will triple my range with min fur damage. always carry a range finder, part of my position set up.

I shoot a 40 BT out my 223. No exit at all. In my 20 extrem I use 32 gr vmax great no fur damage. The 20 extrem is a 222 necked down to a 20cal very deadly Then at real close distance I use my hornet with 35 gr vmax.

So what's the best combo for 22-250 using these bullets and 4895 powder ?

I use hand loaded ballistics 55g out of my 22-250 and I get allot of pelt damage, almost more than my 25-06.. The difference is the 25 drops them right now.
If I we you I would stay away from the ballistic tips..Hope this helps..

I have a Savage VSS in .223 and the Winchester White Box of 40 is awesome. This is a 45 grain jacketed hollow point and shoots well. But right now I am using a 63 gr sierra soft point that gives a small entrance hole and about a 1/2 inch exit.

A buddy of mine is using Hornady Superformance 53 grain bullets in his 22-250He hit a coyote at about 175 yds and no exit wound. You could feel the bullet fragments just inside the hide opposite the entrance hole. Sewing one hole is better than sewing two holes. It was a lung shot btw.

I like the Speer TNT's or the Sierra Varminters, but have used Hornady SX's in the past, all with excellent results in the .222 Remington and the .223.
We only ever had one exit with the .222, and that was about a 40 yard shot, very strange, because they never did before or after.
No bullet is 100% perfect, but the light jacketed varmint bullets do quite well to minimize pelt damage the lower velocity .22's, they almost never exit.
