Default Purchasing a firearm with an Expired RPAL

Has anyone been able to purchase a firearm during the period when their RPAL has expired while waiting for the CFC to complete their renewal.
They applied in Feb but their RPAL expired in May.

The website says they are ok to continue possessing their firearms during the 6 month amnesty period after their RPAL has expired but it doesn't say if they can purchase anything during that time.

Thanks,
Phil

The only thing you can legally do with an expired PAL/RPAL is keep your firearms stored under lock and key during the 6 month amnesty period. The amnesty period exists so you will not be charged for illegal possession of firearms during this time.
During the amnesty period, you can not: use your firearms (unless accompanied by a PAL/RPAL holder), purchase or sell firearms, purchase ammunition, transport firearms.

Default Rpal

Thanks for the response. After my original post I thought to give a gunshop a call and found out the same, he can't purchase with an expired PAL.

Great system. His birthday is May, CFC received his renewal on the 24th of Feb and he still has no word on when it might be approved.

Did your friend do the renewal online or by snail mail? There is a huge difference.

Did mine on March 17th online, says it was approved and shipped….still haven’t seen it. Called for two weeks straight only to get there answering service that hangs up on you after stating you should try again at a different time. Emailed them as well still nothing, not surprised by any means to be honest.

If you are much of a buddy you would essentially buy the firearm with you valid PAL…… the rest sorts fits self out when your buddy receives his renewed PAL.

Default Update

His PAL has been approved so he can go ahead with the purchase. It will probably be another 2 weeks before he actually sees his new RPAL but they will process the transfer in the meantime.

I had thought of purchasing for him but it is a Handgun and who knows how quiclyk they will go ahead and stop sales/transfers. Not sure he would want to spend $1400.00 for a handgun I might never be able to transfer to him.
