Does anyone know where to find this regulation? It disgusts me if it's true.

"Additional Restrictions:

The edible flesh of legally kept game fish must not be wasted, destroyed, spoiled or abandoned (this does not apply to burbot)."

I'm sure we can expect the regulations for burbot to be further enhanced.

There are just too many fishermen and too few fish in this province to allow for harvesting any significant number of fish.
l for one have fished this way when l use to fish in hopes of always having good fishing and in the last 5 yrs of not even being able to enjoy a fish meal because in the few times a year l go don't catch a legal fish and don't proach l think it is time not to waste my time on this JOKE of a fishery and the people running it.

It is terrible.

Let's start a petition to have this changed. Years back I pointed out to F&W that it was against the law to waste wild game...like elk, moose etc.

I pointed out it was not true for fish. I could of back then...gone fishing on the Crowsnest. Killed my limit of trout. Tossed them in the bushes and gone home.

The regulations changed the next year.

We CAN make a difference here also!

you know theres a problem when people ask how to catch a ling. when they were plentiful you would catch them easier than a newb flyfisherman catches the ground on the backcast.

To all those saying open up harvest to PCR walleye..... doubt that would be a good idea. PCR is one of the worst lakes for Mercury in Alberta. those small fish are 10+years old and will not suddenly start growing to sizes where they can reproduce. Once stunted, forever stunted. natural recruitment will never happen for walleye in that lake

Also, good read for those interested in the mercury content part. Old info but still good stuff. Its not like mercury just disappears.

I would certainly sign that petition.

Out of curiosity why was burbot left as an exception to the law?

They were pretty well considered suckers. At the sportsmen's show one year a booth was serving burbot and it changed everyones mind. I also heard from people that Asian restaurant owners used to pick them up off the ice and serve them as fish and chips lol.

i recall years ago fishing at Gull this time of year and the ice would be littered with mariah going to waste. It was sickening to see all these "outdoors" people wasting a fish simply because they could.
