Default Arctic Grayling & Brookies...

Spent yesterday in K-country with my brother. Fished bear Pond for grayling in the morning, then spent a few hours catching gorgeous brookies on dry flies in a little creek. It was a fantastic day!

Bear Pond...

A couple grayling...

My first brookie of the day, right under the bridge where we parked; took a foam Cinnamon Ant...

Another on the ant...

My bro's first of the day; beautiful fish!

The action really heated up when I switched to a yellow Chernobyl Ant; it was getting smashed every time I slapped it down on a likely-looking piece of water; so much fun!!!

Thumbs up

My favorite pic from the day; my bro's brookie on a black foam beetle...

Nothing better than catching these gorgeous creatures in a tiny creek on dry flies!!! It was a spectacular day!
Later,
Steve

Sweet Grayling, went by there a while ago and never stopped there.

Been interested in Bear pond for some time.
What are a guys chances with a fly off shore?

Or should I be spincasting and using some little spinners?

There are some parts of Bear Pond where you can fly fish from shore, but most of the shoreline has a lot of trees. If I were you, I'd bring both fly & spinning gear. It's only a few minutes walk, so bringing extra gear should't be an issue.

Lovely flower shot. You're so artsy...
Looks like you had a fun day. Nice to see no nymphs. The brookie creek yielded some nice Cutts and Bows (21") for me as well the other day. How big are the grayling and how many did you guys hook? I haven't fished it in a few years.
I was stuck in the city today (darn 6 lbers were trying to break my 4wt all afternoon at the neighborhood lake).

What flower shot? That's a pic of the pond; the flower just HAPPENED to be in the way...
The grayling were 12-14'', & we didn't hook many. Landed 4 with a few more either missed or LDR'd. Hardly saw any rises, compared to other times we've been there; never got any grayling on dries. I got 3 on chironomids & my bro' got one on some sorta nymph. Water was very murky, kinda looked like an algae bloom...???
Sorry to hear you were stuck in the city catching 6 lbers; that sucks!!!

The algae bloom can be insane there. One time I was there there was tiny balls of algae that reduced the visibility to about 1". The fish however were still feeding and somehow managed to impale themselves on my hook. Great scenery at that pond.
