Default start on a new lake?

People always talking about the water clarity, weed bed, rock area, boulders and such..... How to gather those info before go to the lake? I was told there are some lake maps available for those information... Searched Hydrographic service's website. didn't find anything for alberta's lakes.... Could anyone give a clue? Really?! I have to dive into the lake to check that out by myself?

This is a question asking how to gather information before hitting a new lake.....So, the lake could be any lake. I don't know if maptown sells those lake maps. May call tomorrow....

I would start by googling said lake, if it's of any size there should be a map somewhere. There was a book out, in two separate editions, Lakes of Alberta, the SDR web site has some lakes on it, just gotta dig around on the web, should be something somewhere.

www.anglersatlas.com.

It's not idiot proof but if you know the depths that you'll find weeds and know the water clarity, etc (eurotrophic, etc) it's an excellent source to reference. If you want to know every bolder in the lakes, good luck,
