Im getting a few pm's and texts on what is still needed, thanks to everyone for asking

at this time

we are still needing 500 hot dog buns to complete the food service

500 hotdogs will be purchased from M and M meats at a discount
Mustard and Ketchup will come from Calgary co-op
bags of chips for the kids will come from Frito Lays
A custom slab cake will come from Calgary co-op.
Macdonals will provide 2 barrels of orange drink and cups

Fishing combos will be proivided by Normark/Rapala with suffix pro mix line

Zebco/Quantum has donated ball caps for every fishing volunteer to wear so the kids can identify all the guides easily. It will also make policing the event for non registered volunteers.

The Calgary Fishin Hole is providing hooks

Pro staffer Marvin Koizumi has made a huge donation to this event that will also carry over for further events too.

Jims jigs will provide the hooks

HorseTrader has kindly donated ice scoops for the event for the lids use.

GL2 has provided 300 ice teas, 400 hot chocolates, plates, cups and napkins. Him and his wife will also donate many hours making the participation awards

Bait has been purchased,,in the form of 1500 smelt

Wayne Christy has donated toilet paper and hand sanitizer, plus has been a big help as a advisor

TFG has donated the propane and is in charge of the equipment and big tent details.

Monies have been donated by HorseTrader, Mikeo and family, Ogre, a generous anonamous donor and my family, to offset costs like legalities, permits, participation awards and other non donated goods.

Some volunteers have also donated their use of tents and augers and cameras. Please contact "The Fisherman Guy" so he is aware of how many tents will be coming. Its vital we know so we can set up a mapped grid of the event.

Thanks to all and if ive missed someone, send me a nasty pm for forgetting you to wake me up.

A few other donations are being discussed but i have yet to recieve or confirm them. I will do my best to update

We are still discussing the rental of 2 porta potties. The area we plan to fish has two government bathrooms but with 150 people in total we fear the little ones might not be able to do the pee pee dance for long.......the cost of the porta potties is quite high due to travel times. I will update later on whats decided.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a kid will have a day to remember because of your generousity

I won't be able to make it Dago. I sent a pm to Chubb and had to cancel. Today I found out my son has a follow up appointment the day before the event so I will be staying at home.

recieved a email today from the regional biologist who monitors PCR and He is interested in the Fishing Team collecting data from all fish caught for His research.I am very excited to be part of this research and im sure the Fishing Team assembled can do a very good job.

This is some what of a formality but at the Team meeting prior to the kids arriving, I will need to see everyone's vaild angling license. In turn I'll give you a fancy fishing cap to wear to identify you as a fishing team member.

If any Boys and Girls club volunteers are reading this.....You must be in possesion of a valid fishing license if you want to fish at the event, a email has been sent to all ther B@G clubs.

got a ballpark cost for the PPs? I make the walk myself 3 or 4 times during the day, even if it was once or twice for everyone else thats a pretty good path worn through the snow.

In a attempt to reassure SRD we have the manpower and ability to conduct a data collection of fish caught........im increasing the number of total volunteers by a small margin, as the expense is substantial.

I truely believe this project will be educational and fun for all involved. It proudly lets us be a direct and benificial part of fisheries management. Im grateful for the oppurtunity

I also am glad we can help out in any way with the bios. Fork lengths wont be difficult, measure one and that should about do it, times 1000 altho I have caught about 3 different distinct sizes in there.

Im getting alot of inquiries about the event via pm's. I realize the thread has constructively grown in size and many choose not to read the whole thread, so i will repost the announcement in hopes its answers many questions.

Sponsors and Volunteers proudly present:

The 1st Annual Boys and Girls Club Fun Day at Pine Coulee Reservoir.Approximately 6km west of Stavely AB.
>This event will involve approximately 100 children and 50 adult volunteers.
> The event will happen on FEB. 25th 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Actual location will be determined with updated fishing reports prior to the event. The location must be in the general location of the boat launch parking lot to facilitate the buses and access to washrooms.
>In the event of bad weather the directors of the Boys and Girls Club will make the final decision on the event proceeding.
> This is a non competitive event with every child being a winner and receiving a participation prize.
> Food and beverages will be provided for all, in the form of hot-dogs and hot chocolate/juice. All allergies that the children may have are the responsibility of the Boys and Girls Club's supervisors.
> All liability insurance for the children will be provided by the B&G Club and Walleye Unlimited will act as the liaison between the B&G Club.
> The Boys and Girls Club will be responsible for the transportation of the children.
> Walleye Unlimited will have addressed the CFE issues if there is any.
>Walleye Unlimited will look after all licensing issues.
> No alcohol or illegal substances are permitted.
> No smoking among the children will be allowed, a smoking area will be designated.
> No pictures can be publically posted without permission.
> A first aid kit will be on site for minor scrapes and all medical attention will be administered by a B&G Club representative.
> All participants will follow the Regulations of the Alberta Government.
> SRD will be invited to attend in the event data can be collected and at the very least have lunch with us.
> Regional conservation officers will also be invited to overview the event and have lunch with us.
> All holes will be drilled prior to the start of the event and ice safety will be addressed. All tackle will be supplied by sponsors and volunteers. All bait will be supplied.
>All children will be asked to come dressed according to conditions and bring a lawn chair if possible.
>No snowmobiles or quads will be allowed for the children's safety.
> Events will include:
> 1- ICE FISHING
> 2-POSSIBLE SKATING, ICE DEPENDANT
> 3-A rotation system will be put in place for tent and camera time for the children
> 4-A GROUP PHOTO WILL BE TAKEN AND ITS OUR HOPE TO MAKE A SMALL VIDEO OF THE EVENT
> 5-FOOD AND DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED ALL DAY
> 6-VOLUNTEERS WILL MEET AT 8:00 A.M. FOR A LAST MINUTE TEAM MEETING AND SET-UP THE EVENT
>All fishing guide volunteers will be asked to bring Tip Ups if possible
> I have received numerous contacts which state they are unable to attend for numerous reasons but would still like to help with monies. All monies will be used for the event and any excess will be passed on to a charitable organization. A complete breakdown will be released at the end of the event. On behalf of the children we thank you all for your contributions.
>
> I will make this perfectly clear: ANY AND ALL VOLUNTEERS DO NOT HAVE TO BE MEMBERS OF WALLEYE UNLIMITED AND AT NO TIME WILL YOU BE SOLICITATED TO JOIN. Walleye Unlimited is an important connection to the B&G club with a history of holding prior events.
>
> Environment issues will be the Walleye Unlimited clubs responsibility. Garbage will be cleaned up by volunteers. Even a spilled drink such as hot chocolate will be shoveled up and removed from the lake. As a conservation organization leave only foot prints in the snow and on the ice. This is not debatable!!
> Any other fishermen not involved in the event will be treated with respect.
>This event is only possible with the generous spirit of all volunteers and the involvement of our sponsors. I ask everyone to support all the sponsors who have kindly donated to this event. Banners will proudly be flown at the event if provided and public printing of our appreciation will be announced.
>
>
> WE THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. YOUR KINDNESS WILL LIVE IN THE MEMORIES OF THE CHILDREN FOR MANY YEARS.
>
>
>
> TAKE A KID FISHING AND FISHING LIVES FOREVER

This annoucment still holds true for the most part.
I still ask for those serious about wanting to volunteer that they read the entire thread as some important decisions have been made to address certain issues. e.g. Dago is in charge of the Drill Team ....The Fisherman Guy is in charge of the Equipment...etc etc.

Some other important facts.......those who wish to donate Draw prizes please contact me to arrange pick up before the end of January as all items must go on the Government Gaming Permit.

Only people who are registered to volunteer may attend and participate in the event and assist the children. As previously posted you must post here your intent to volunteer and then follow up with a pm to me with full and real name/home town or city/ telly #.

All registered members of the Fishing team must be 18 years old and im sorry to say no children can attend, even if they are your children.

thanks everyone

Since i posted the No Under 18 law ive recieved some pm's asking why cant they bring their own children or any child with them to the event.

As the header or original post states......Boys and Girls Club
The B@G is a registered club in many Alberta/worldwide towns and cities that provides children who for the most part arent privy to many activities. They are a large organization that provides a needed service.

I donot pick the children.....the clubs do. Im only the organizer of the event to provide the kids the oppurtunity to experience the sport of ice fishing. The clubs will carry their own insurance for the children in their club.

I will provide all the legal coverage for the Fishing and Food service Teams. The many generous volunteers and sponsors will provide goods and services for the event. We as a Team will organize and conduct the event in hopes it a great success.
Im sorry if some people thought this was a open event for all children it was never my intent to make people think that.

The legalities of a event like this is mind blowing and im sorry i cant break rules to acomodate everyone. The costs have been large already, without the B@G Club carrying their own insurance for liabilty and injury I could not fund this event.

I hope everyone understands.... thank you

I would like to volunteer if you need me. I have an 8 inch auger and an ice fishing tent also. I am in Claresholm and can also be the back and forth guy with my mega cab if needed.

Time is flying by as we close in on the event. A tremendous amount of support has been committed by many, in the form of donations of cash and prizes, time, and gear. I would like to post up what everyone is bringing for gear so that we have an idea of what is being lent to the event, and where we will be deficient with certain items, such as tents.

**Please remember to label your items with your name and phone number to ensure you get your gear once the event is finished.

Seeing as commitment is difficult to confirm, please PM me with what you are committing to the event for use. I will update the list as the PM's float in.

Willowtrail: Two deep fryer setups for boiling hot chocolate.
Horsetrader: 1 six man tent, 2 two man tents, and 2 Marcum cameras.
Silverdoctor: 1 four man tent.
WayneChristie: 1 four man tent, one Fish Camera.
TheFishermanGuy: 1 six man tent, 1 - 14 x 16 ft Wall tent if needed and not too windy.

Folks if you would like to lend anything to the event, tent's are in short supply. If it is windy and cold, your tent will help the little ones stay toasty warm and make the event that much better for them. If you would like to lend your tent to the event, please send me a PM with your commitment and I will add you to the list!

Thank you everyone for your help and generosity.

vcmm has generously donated a 11 lb box of smelt....if anyone is headed to Vulcan and can pick them up let me know...thanks.

Also i need someone to bring out the 2 barrels of orange drink from High River Macdonalds the morning of

Im proceeding along well with conversations with the Regional biologist. He and another Alberta Enviroment person may even attend the event.
We may have another small project to cut some pvc pipe in half and cap one end to make a wet measuring board for each Fish Team member.

im confident the Fish Team members are well versed in fish handling in cold or windy conditions but we will make the call event day how we handle the data collection....weather being our guide on the process.
