Puerto Vallarta Fishing

Anybody done any fishing there any recommendations.We are going in the middle of Jan would like to do some fishing.We are looking for a charter and which area of the bay is good.Here is a map of the fishing locations.

Lorne at that time of year you should be able to run into some Sail fish.

The further off shore you go.. The better.
The bigger and faster the boat the more $$$, but more time spent fishing.

If you go down to the NO NAME CAFE, ask for Don Eastcott.He is the part owner. Tell him Jamie Hunt sent you and you would like to go with the same girl who took Him and I out. (Or perhaps he has someone new.). I have been with that company 2 times now and enjoyed myself on both trips.

Also a FANTASTIC place to hit is El Torito's. Enjoy the Shrimp wrapped in bacon and stuffed with Cheese!!

i'll be doing some fishing there over christmas as well; there are a ton of websites for charters - i kinda like the looks of Masterbaiter's "Stroker"

went out with captain Rick's out of puerto venturas when we went to tulum last year; had a blast with them. we also did well bottom fishing in maz with a charter out of the el cid marina - wont get into my deep sea experience there tho (read: DONT GO CHEAP)..

I went one july and took a private charter from marina vallarta and we took about 45 mins off shore to get where we went and I hooked up a nice 150 pound blue marlin. Just hit the marina and ask around for which charter is the best and they will point you in the right direction. Well worth the money for the fish of a lifetime and the memories. My next tropical fishing trip is going to be for bonefish and tarpon on the fly down in the keys.

Pre booking in Canada will liely result in the most expensive method and not what you really want. Several years ago when we were there it was reccomended to us by our travel agent that it is much better to book a trip when you are there. We ended up having a great trip fishing for Sails and roosters as well as dolphins. Our boat was incredible and the Captain and crew were great! $150.00 per person there was 3 of us. When we were on the docks waiting for our boat to come pick us up we could have got even better deals. All the captains and crews who have no charters for the day stroll around the docks trying to get customers and all these boats are reputable as they are givin docking times at the local marina no shifty operations at all! Doing it again I would just go to the Marina at 7:00AM and start talking it won't take you long and someone will make you a great offer! This is what we did on day 2 and we had a great crew and boat for $75.00 per person but we did share it with one other guy from New York who didn't even want to fish he just wanted to say he'd done it and had the pictures to proof it. The captains would rather make a little than make nothing, you won't regret organizing it yourself right on the dock.

Have been on a few fishing trips down in PV.
Here's a few names from some of the guys we tried.
Jackpot charters, kind of pricey but VERY NICE boats. We went down to the marina and booked them ourselves instead of booking them through an agent. We had great fishing with them.
Here's a link to a guy named Phil we have used a few times.
He can arrange a shared trip or a private one, whatever you want http://vallartafish.8m.com/ and if you get lucky and catch a big one he is also an agent for Gray's taxidermy. I had 2 replicas done with them, very good work.
He can line up a trip either offshore for Marlin and Sails or inshore for Roosters and whatever else is around.
We booked a boat through Masterbaiters one day then booked him again later on without going through them and saved 150$$.
We went out as far as El Banco and Corbetena and had good fishing but have also had some pretty good fishing in closer as well. Go down to the Marina and talk to some of the other people that have been out in the last couple days, see where they have been going. It is a long ride out to El Banco.

Hey FisherPotch that Dorado had been laying on ice in the fish box for 15 -20 minutes when we took the picture. He gave my buddy a good fight and then an even bigger fight once we got him in the boat. He kicked the crap out of the little Mexicn deck hand while he was trying to put him on ice.

2big we didn't weigh the Marlin but I think he would go around 180lbs. I would have rather let him go but was pretty much dead by the time we got him to the boat.

I was in PV Sept 15th and went for the 8hour trip chartered with MIkes FIshing $165 for the day, nice boat and the guys were local know the waters. The trick there is to fish the junk lines, small bait get protection under the junk and sailfish love them.

Landed a 8'3" sailfish, I will post some pics later
