Default Catch and Release Fish Handling

This is a simply a reminder of the proper way to handle a fish which is to be released.
I'm sure even the most experienced fisherman still has room for improvement IF he/she is open to new information.
Fish are too valuable to be caught only once.

**Please note the "Handle with Care" section**

Cool

If I am on the open water, I do my utmost to not handle fish at all. not quite as easy on the hard water. if fish is worthy of a pic we try to be as gentle and quick as possible.
some times it can be a challenge ,and some times you just got to cut the hook. mho.

Relax fellas, this thread was not intended as as an insult.

If you took it as such then you clearly didn't bother to read it.

Default Fish Handling

Once you have caught enough fish from a strictly catch and release fishery, lets say some of the East Slope rivers you will see that these fish are really quite hardy(missing eyes, half a lower jaw, torn gill plate, healed body gashes). No you can,t tear their gills or bash them on the banks, have a death grip on the slimy things for a picture, but they can take quite a bit of abuse whether it's intended or not, and I am not suggesting that anybody should do so in any way, shape, or form All fish that need to be released should be handled with care, large or small. As many of the long time fishermen will know that if you manage to stick your fingers in the gills of a larger fish and snap a picture it is normally your blood that's dripping down it's usually not the from the fish

I think some people, need to read this. If they can't read this then they need pictures. If that doesn't help... then they should give up fishing and buy a PS3 and some chips.

Holy sheep s**t Horse, what has got your panties in such a twist?

I saw the other thread, and IMO more than one person likely deserved a time out.

Now here you and Wayne come to derail a thread that has nothing to do with derailing the other one, AFAIK.

IBTL. So sad.

shredneck,
People starting out on this forum with common sense is highly frowned upon. You need to have thousands of useless posts to be taken serious. Proper release is a disease here. Tons of "pros" here, but still showing pictures of gill fingers, head squeeze, jaw spreaders left in to get pictures, hanging from hooks, the list goes on. Good luck.

It amazes me it's always the one that have posted no pics or even posted a fishing thread or post. That whine the most about the guys that do. Maybe a little more fishing and a few fish post and people will take you serious. Untill then you got nothing I want to hear.

X2...

We watched a older guy on the NSR (was fishing with Sureshot and Geezle) catch a few walleye drag them up a muddy bank and quite literally toss them 15-20 feet back into the river.....some people do truly need to learn how to handle fish they plan on releasing....

.....this guy was also teeing off on about a dozen or so range balls into the river before he started "fishing".....

Amazing what you see out there....

Some people will benefit from a C&R refresher, some people won't. Posting the link on here within easy reach will help some people and shouldn't offend anyone. Thanks for taking the time.
