Default Back Country Trunk Road Cutts

Exploring the Creeks Day 1
Went out with FishHunter7 on the weekend in search of beautiful west slope cutthroat trout on the dry fly. Day 1 started out slow when we stopped at what we thought was a very fine place to land cutties and turned out it the river wasn't holding that many fish due to the lack of food in that particular stretch. After about a 3 km hike we went back to the truck and started our way up the road to come across another creek. Bumping into F&W she told us a little bit about the area and ensured us the creek we were at held numerous cutts. Indeed it did, there wasn't a riffle or run that didn't hold the little buggers. Very fun it was, we got some pretty great video footage of us catching them.

The Hike Day 2
This time we were on one of Alberta's finest rivers. The hike began at 8am because any time before 8 am was freezing and we didn't prepare for the cold weather. We were trying to find a tributary that people were saying was unreal for trophy cutts, turns out the trib wasn't great, although it did hold numerous smaller cutts. The bite turned on from 11am- 8pm (when the sun was out). Many of the fish we caught were in the range of 5-10 inches although we caught 4, 14-15 inch cutts. We got a chance to see some amazing back country and catch some very colorful fish. The water was crystal clear and the pools were a sight to see. We easily had a 150 fish on this stretch. The hiking distance was around 30 km in total and the only thing we would do differrently next major fishing trip is to bring the quads out as it would save us the long walk. After the hike we tried some other creeks a short distance away and must of caught 100 fish from them too.

Here are some pics and the video is still to come in a few days.

Nice pictures guys. Looks like you had a great day of fishing. Nice to see that the catch and release regs are helping the Cutts make a comeback in that area.
