Default Official World Junior Hockey Thread

Canada took care of the Finns...now the Finns are poised to deal an embarrassing blow to the Americans. 3-1 Finns leading. The US has played weak. I see a Swede / Canada gol metal game.

I can hardly wait till tonights game!

I am watching the game to. Gave a big cheer and fist pump when the fins scored those 2 quick ones.

I am going to watch all 4 world junior games today.

I love this time of year.

Well 4-1 win for the Fins.

Now to watch Sweden and the Swiss battle it out before the Canadians game.

TSN2 has that game on right now.

Gotta cut back on the penalties before they get to the tougher teams.

Got two tickets for Canada Denmark tomorrow, we're in Edmonton for my son's Bantam hockey tournement so we have time to go and we're in the right place. I could also go to the USA Czech game, and the Canada USA game New Years eve but time and money prohibit....I think I may send my wife and son, she has never been to a game like that. Gonna be a gooder!

Was at tonight's game, man that crowd is insane! Wedgwood played great and the fans let him know. The Czechs got really dirty in the third. Lots of garbage happening behind the play. Anyone need someone to go with them to any final games??

If Canada ends up against Russia, which is my pick for a repeat final they had better be a lot more disciplined. Another parade like that to the box and the Russian's who move the puck very well, and also have a lot of skill in their line up will eat them up. Canada is looking great and I love how they're playing. I hope they dont get the by outta the RR but it's look'n that way...

Russia built a more physical team...it will be interesting to see who the top two teams end up being...Canada is one obviously.

Go Canada Go.

Jealous of all those going the games. It must be a rush!

Cheers to all!

Is it just me or do the traditionally strong teams (Canada, USA, Russia and Sweden) look less impressive this year while some of the traditionally mediocre teams (Finland & Switzerland) look somewhat more improved?

Sweden has really impressed me......especially by beating Canada in exhibition. Switzerland has a very good team and I'm not surprised that Sweden went to a shoot out with them. The Swiss should have beat Russia but they just couldn't finish.

I didn't watch the USA vs Finland game but based on the 50 or so shots that USA had I'm not sure what to make of it. Did the Finns keep them to the outside and were all of the shots low quality or did the goalie stand on his head?

Russia hasn't impressed me at all but you never know with those guys. Last year they were on the bubble to be relegated to division B and called a national embarrassment and then went on to win the gold.

The Russia vs Sweden game in Pool B to determine who gets the bye is the game that I want to watch but we'll likely see a rematch in the semis. Right now I'm predicting a Canada vs Sweden gold medal game although I'd like to see a Canada vs Russia rematch.

A heads up for anyone who wants to go to games! I have two tickets to USA Czech game 1:30 tomorrow, section 213 row 37. Can't go because of my son's final hockey game. Sell for face value $55 x 2. Also, same seats, 6 PM, Denmark vs Finland. Same price. PM for my phone #, I'm staying up on Stony Plain Rd off 178th....

Well Canada just lost out in the Spengler cup in a shootout.

Hopefully the Juniors can do better in their tourney.

The non traditional core good teams are getting more competitive. There are more of these kids in the US and Canadian hockey systems. Slovakia, Finland, etc all can show impressive moments and maybe the underdogs also play with more passion.

4-0 and looking like a blowout. Glad the boys aren't celebrating too hard and rubbing it in.

In case of a tie in the standings I believe they look to goals for...so they can take as many as possible...but no need to rub them in like you said.

5 - 0

Keep scoring team Canada!

run it up. I remember my team was up 11-0 after 15 minutes. Our coach made a 3 pass, and 3 goal rule.

Was interesting having a line that all had 3 goals, except 1 person... parked them infront, fired pucks along the ice and waited for tips... was a long shift

I really wonder what goes on in the dressing room for a team like Denmark, prior to the game, I don't know what you would say to a team in such a David and Goliath situation where the Danes-as unfortunate as it is, never stand a chance in a game like this.

I think it comes down to do your best. When I played, we were faced against teams WAAAY better than us... coach would stress dont do anything stupid, and just play proud to represent your country in such a pristine event. Plus, play well - this tournament is #1 scouting event of the year for undrafted NHL prospects. This can make or break ya!
