Default The Other Prairie Creek

The title refers to the Prairie Creek near Elbow Falls, West of Bragg Creek. I fished there many years ago, and have always meant to go back.

I haven't been out that way since the 2013 flood though. Is the creek still fishable, or was it reduced to bare gravel? Are there still fish in it, or did they all get washed downstream and not come back?

Obviously, boots on the ground is the best way to find out, but I'd like an idea of what to expect, if anyone has a recent report. Also, I suppose, I should ask if the streams in that area (the Elbow, for example) are still in full runoff, or if they're clear enough to fish.

Probably in fishable condition, and I've never fished prairie but I'd bet that there are fish in there somewhere even if it's bare gravel in some spots.

As with most creeks in this area ie K-country most have an incredible amount of structure across and in them now(trees) which makes navigation tricky along streams and open casting almost non-existent... good time to practice your roll casts. This should make for some excellent cover for brood stalk and the flush has likely cleared out the brookie areas making for better habitat for the cutties although the opposite has happened on other streams with less gradient where more channelizing has occurred creating less flow and more brookie like habitat. With regards to fish being flushed I caught rainbows, browns, cutties and bulls out of the same stretch of water more than once last year where I used to catch almost only Browns in the past so all is not bad and remember they can swim and will always move back to good water
