Default Birthday cake

Granddaughter's first birthday is coming up so I made her a cake.

So then you know from what angle to best catch the grandchild's surprised look. Your kids -the parents- will get a kick out of this family tradition. Betcha 3 generations from now the 1 year olds still get an owl cake.

We want to see party pictures!

I think I worded that poorly... I have lots of experience making birthday cakes in general, this was my first owl cake.

Catch the grandkid's eyes popping...

The mom could approach the table with the cake so the kid only sees the back of the owl. Put cake down in front of the child, then turn plate so that the owl's eyes face the child. Surprise!

N.B. The above wouldn't be much fun for a kid that doesn't have a sense of adventure or humour.
