Fishing near Smithers

I know this is more of a BC question but does anyone know what the fishing is like up near Smithers. I plan on moving there and hope their is a nice spot for Pike fishing. I understand the salmon are king and grayling and Dolly Vardens are predominant as well.

Any thoughts?

Pike fishing is not that commonplace up there and it would be hard to target them. Kokanee, Rainbows and char are common up there.

No pike near Smithers. None west of the divide (mostly).

Having said that, there is some of the best salmon and steelhead fishing to be found in close proximity to Smithers. You won't miss the pike.

got to the sports shop on main street and ask for peter he is a long time local and avid fisherman and owns the shop...hell hook ya up

p.s. absolutly no pike alot of trout and a ton of salmon in pretty good shape during the right season. try anywhere on the river west of smithers or in the burnslake area rocks as well but watch the regs closely

Pike in Smithers? That's like going to Alaska to shoot gophers. If ur up there in July, fish the bulkley river for chinook on the moorstown Indian reserve at a place called idiot rock. This is no bs. Just ask the locals. U could also try fishing for steelhead too. Not sure when is best for them. Good luck

X2 that the burns lake area is awesome. I was on a vacation there in 2003 and could easilly catch my limit of pan sized rainbows at this one local remote lake.

I hear there are many other trout bearing lakes in the area as well where it would be difficult not to catch a trout.

If u get a chance, drop a line into Lake Babine (think its 45min...ish from Smithers). I rented a cabin there several years back and I had the time of my life. I was learning to fish and caught nada but my crew did quite well with the Rainbows overall. I seem to recall it being the longest natural lake in b.c. or something like that. Amazing scenery and wildlife abundant.
I realize this aint Salmon or Pike but I'm just saying if u get a chance, take a peek, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

There is no shortage of fish in Smithers, around Smithers or on the way to Smithers. Babine Lake is hard to beat. The Bulkley River is also always a good option.

well you could fish dease river for some nice pike but thats a bit east of smithers, have fun for the graylin and steel, awsome fishing place up there.

There is some amazing fishing around the Vanderhoof area as well. Also in Fort St James
