Default Yet another Great Day @ Lower K

Yep, another beautiful day up in K Country. Had to take advantage of the last ice opportunity once again. Hardwater freaks Chubb, Tosh, and myself just can't stay away from the ice we love. Paid off again. Landed some nice fish, lost just as many, and donated a little tackle. Good times. Ice is rough though, not many days left. Maybe 6" of decent stuff below many layer of soft slush and snow. Lots of fresh snow on top. Without snowshoes it would be very tough going.

Great on you guys. I was thinking of going up tomorrow and was wondering how much snow was there. I don't have snow shoes so I guess maybe I'll hit the bow. Nice trout

Nice! some of those bull trout are lunkers! I betcha the biggest one easilly weiged around 10ish or 12islbs.

As for all of the snow and ice still on the K lakes, is that just because that lake is at a higher elevation, or has it also been a very late and cool spring there this year?

we didn't weigh any fish today. i did put a tape on the fish in the second picture 29". we landed at least two more of that same caliber.

the k lakes are mountain lakes with an elevation over 5600'. the area received 19" of new snow since my last trip up there a week ago. it's still a winter wonderland. the over night lows still dip well below zero, so the thaw is a long slow process. mountain weather is so unpredictable. we were down to our hoodies with the sun blazing down on us one minute, and in near white out conditions with a pretty brisk wind the next. and this happened on and off through out the day. the holes were freezing up pretty bad for the first few hours this morning. don't bother me a bit, i could fish thru ice 24/7 twelve months of the year.

Lol, definitely sounds like typical mountain weather. I fished Minnewanka one May long weekend and it was warm and sunny out. The next minute, there was this huge wind gust and and freezing cold rain. I thought for sure the little 12ft aluminum boat was going to be swamped in the 3ft waves. Luckily though, I got back to the boat launch, but was just soaked. Also, Maligne lake is also about 5600ft in elevation, and last may long weekend, there was still snow and ice on the lake up there. Its definitely amazing how a 1000ish feet increase of elevation can effect the weather IMO.

Why the fuzzy face if you don't mind me asking. Are you hiding from the Triad or Mafia? You in witness protection? You a wanted criminal? Any reward? How much is it?

Your grammar is just as ignorant as the point you are attempting to make. You act like they were jamming their fingers inside the operculum for all of the pictures! I also imagine their hands were wet while handling the fish and it was released in a timely manner. You don't have all of the options when ice fishing as you do in open water, so cut the guy some slack. Would you have rather he gaffed the fish out of the hole? You would have probably slabbed this fish anyhow, hillbilly.

Don't let an ignorant post stop you from posting pics, half the fun of these boards is seeing fish others have caught! Just ignore those losers.

X2. Love seeing the pics, keep em' coming. There are far more people on here who appreciate the pics than those who criticize them to death.

Our guide told us the snow wasnt deep .......then 5 feet from the truck and bare pavement he pulls out snow shoes.....Tells us i'll pull the sled and pack it down for you both. Ya RIGHT!!!!.....boom he falls and cant get up as soon as he hits the snow. 1 snowshoe going north... 1 snowshoe going south... man in full spread eagle, laughing so hard he cant get up.

Sadly he has some embarassing pics of me so i cant post

Good times lots of laughs
