wildcats are great, they give you the ability to choose your outcome, and pick something with good, readily available components. for that reason, anything off a wsm or wssm case would be my last choice as a platform to build from.

Don't let the naysayers sway you. Lots of factory chamberings started out as wildcats. When they ask "why"?.....reply with "why not"?
Why not do a 35 cal on the 300 WSM case?
Reamers and dies are available.
http://www.35cal.com/ruger77_350wsm.html
375's and 416's on the 300 WSM have also been done.

I'd like a wildcat 338-375ruger. I think a 375-300wizzum would be cool.

The WSM has been necked all the way up to 458, 375/WSM would be a breeze to build a money pit like that!

What about the 6.5 saum or the 6.5 SS. Loaded with the Berger vld’s they dump all their energy into the animal.

Seems to me that John Barnsness already developed a 9.3x.350 Rem Mag that should be pretty close. Great idea. A .358 x.300WSM would be interesting as well.
Too Late .. appears to be a done dinner . What a thumper !..
The 35 Sambar (35x300WSM)was done in 2001 by a gun writer/editor (Breil Jackson) in Austrailia. The following are loads by him for his 23" barreled rifle. 1) 200 Horn. SP 65.0 gr Varget fps 2771 (2) 200 Horn. SP 68.0 gr Varget fps 2920 (3) 225 Nos. BT 65.0 gr Varget fps 2775 (4) 225 Nos. BT 75.0 gr H 4350 fps 2843 (5) 250 Speer GS 72 gr H 4350 fps 2700

If you want a short action thumper try a 375-300 RSAUM. Personally I do not see the difference in stroke length between a short and a mag length action to be that mush of an advantage but to each his won.

Longer stroke means you usually have some additional length in your magazine. Pretty handy if you want to seat your bullets out a bit further. I think all the advantages go to the long actions. The xtra 3 ounces and a bit longer stroke pay off in spades in most cases. Micro-light rifles? I still haven't figured out all the attraction, but yeah .. to each their own.

458 2'' or a 45-70 would be hard to beat for that kind of work.

458 Socom
This little 458 I built is a great bush gun! Use a .308 action, no mods required. .473 bolt face. For best feeding I went with PTG Rem 700 bottom metal that takes AR-15 magazines, works great"

Skybob,
Nice rig, I like it. What was the base case you necked up to 458? A 308 only has a neck diameter of .453 to it would become a straight case.

It's not a Wildcat, the round was designed to function in the AR-15 with a simple upper swap. The parent case is 50AE. Brass is available from Starline. I have an extra 100 pieces of brass and a reamer if anyone is interested. It is a fun little gun in bolt action I usually load 300 grain TSX or 500 grain. Does not quite have the horsepower of a 45-70 but recoil is a lot less. I never could get it to feed properly with the floorplate so I switched to 10 round AR-15 magazines and it feeds perfectly with the PTG bottom metal.

Why wildcat
To the OP:
One side of me says cool, go for it.
The practical side says "you have tried that and spent a lot of money for what you could match with readily available cartridges".
Think 375 Ruger.

you got that right, the incredible custom action/built guns i could own had not have had to experiment and dick around with what i thought was a 'better mousetrap', that no one else had thought of............ heads up, there is no such thing.
on the upside, guys like dave manson and kiff will tell you 'your idea is awesome and your reamer will be ready in 6 weeks sir!'

Not a wildcat but think .358 Norma Mag with a 20 inch tube.Velocity loss was 35 fps per inch from a 24" barrel.More than enough power for the big bears or anything else, standard length action.Come back for another visit and shoot mine.

I have the Ruger Alaskan (leftie). Stainless, CRF, 20" barrel, very good open sights, 2.5-8 Leupold in quick detach scope rings, pretty much perfect for bear protection.

I'm building a 338 SS using 250 Bergers. Rich is starting to play with a .35 as well. Not many people know what the Sherman long and short action line is but he is gaining major momentum.

If you could make do with a long action, the .35 Whelen might be the ticket. Lots of available ammo, easy to load for and more than enough performance for the intended purpose. It could easily be done on a 7 lb rifle as well. The 9.3x62 is another if you reload.
