Default NEW stevens 25-06

Jusy ordered a 25-06 stevens. Hoping it will work for my daughter, but is also to just play around with a bit. Never owned a rifle in this calibre or a stevens for that matter so am looking forward to black bear season next spring. Between now and then it makes a nice diversion to kill some of the winter. Will be loading 100 gr bullets?? Or should I use something heavier to hunt with? Thanks

I load 120gr Hornady HP's /54gr H-4831SC/Fed mag primer /Win brass.Black bear, elk and several deer later no complaints.I find 100gr offering too explosive except for Partitions of course. The 120gr Hornady went through both sides of a 3pt elk at 400 yards. He went 50 yards and simply laid down....................Harold 54gr RE22/115gr Partition same above components is also a killer

As Harold states the above loads work great, I uae the same nosler part load its deadly. Another Ive been using on deer is IMR4350 and the 95 grain nosler part, its great for a young/lighter shooter as it has no recoil at all. My boy shot 4 deer with this load this year, all one shot kills so it seems to work

Hope this helps

Ian

I've ran nothing but 100's for big game in my 25'06 (custom twist for light bullets)
Use a good quality bullet, and have at it.

TSX's, or Partiton's have worked excellent in mine.

B C how old is your daughter? On my Stevens in 25-06 the first thing I did was remove their not so good pad and put on a Limbsaver.
The next thing I did was load up some 75 gr V-Max bullets to practice with the rifle, then when I became comfortable with it we loaded up some 100 gr barnes TSX bullets and went hunting, well after a couple more trips to the range. FS

I shoot the barnes 100gr TSX out of mine and get well under one inch groups. I have shot elk and deer with this load and it works great. The most important thing is practice and getting her comfortable with the rifle.

Been shooting a 25-06 for 32years now,use it for everything I hunt (moose, elk deer), to old for recoil anymore, It has never failed to do the job, never shot anything but factory ammo! Start em off early, and learn how to shoot
