Default World Benchrest Championships - Rosebud July 14-21

The Rosebud Silhouette & Benchrest Club is hosting the World Championships. This is short range 100 yd and 200 yd group shooting.

The very best group shooters in the World will be here, from 15 countries.

Anyone can come out and watch. Bring your hearing protection, a spotting scope and tripod, and a camera if you want to record things. Match days are July 17th-21st. Matches will run about 9am-4pm. Official practice days are July 14, 15, 16, I expect most competitors will be there about the same time, about 9-4. Best time to talk to the shooters is on the practice days. There will be a concession open around the lunch hour.

Here are directions to the range:

We have created a central location for pictures and results at WBC XV. Follow this link and click on the July 14 date to see photos of the loading tent going up yesterday, and the general layout of the range.

Nice job Rosebud. Obviously a great facility to be able to hold the World Championship.
Who is on the Canadian Team?

Peter Smith
Rob Seemann

Canada 2

Dave Holmes
Rob MacLennan

Good luck to the Canadian teams! I know things will be hectic, but if you could post some links of the shoot on here as it progresses there would be a few people interested to see how Canada does.

WOW!!😳
I’ll admit I don’t know the first thing about competitive BR,but if I understand correctly,is that 5 groups x 5rds avg <.2MOA?
I’m pretty certain I could punch a hole that smal if if I put one into the bullseye and the next 4 over the berm,LOL.😝

Correct. Also have 7 minutes to shoot each group regardless of wind conditions so if you have a wind switch ( at Rosebud range the winds can be erratic, heavy and unpredictable) you have to pick a condition and rattle off 5 rounds in seconds before the wind changes or if the wind changes try to hold your point of aim off hoping the wind will drift your bullet into the same hole. Hence all the wind flags. The guns are all single shot rifles, no repeaters allowed.

Thats why they have a moving paper sheet they call a moving backer behind the target which moves like a convayor belt as you shoot which proves you actually shot 5 shots!

I think Walt Berger established the World Benchrest Championship in 1990.
And this year, at 90 (?) years of age, came in 17th out of over 80 shooters in the total two gun.
And he didn't bring his shooting glasses.

Congrats to all the shooters and to the Rosebud Club for a well run event.

I wonder what bullet Walt was running?I assume Berger's,the BR Column or 68 FB Target?

Alberta's Hugh Williamson shooting his own barrels(HWP),Rob MacLennan used to make barrels, wonder who's barrels he using?
An equipment list of some of the top shooters would be interesting.
Canadian shooters did very well,Congratulations!

Walt was using Tony Boyers rifle and equipment, and that includes bullets, since he didn't have his own along.
