Default Bought some fishing gear in Edmonton today (Fri 12)

I am hoping to hit the hot spots, fishing hole, fishing centre, WSS, and see if I can find a decent deal on a underwater camera or flasher, and am going to buy a fly fishing rig.

I have gotten great advice about the fly rod, 9' 2 piece in a 7, the reel and so on are yet to be discovered.

Where else can a guy look?

Does anyone know where I can find an Airchair or Sky Ski?

My brother mentioned a Canadian Tire had some vexilar flashers on clearance for $175 about 1.5 months ago. Not sure where it was located in the city though. May be worth checking what they're carrying and how the price compares. Bass Pro had some flashers on sale recently as well, you'd have to check the web page but you may be able to get one through them shipped and save a bit of coin. Otherwise if you can wait till spring watch Canadian Tire for clearance. I got my vex on clearance for $225 last year late in the season. Was half price and I'm not sure how i used to get by without it, underwater camera hasn't gone fishing since.

it might be good to wait untill the fishin hole has a sale on. I picked up a sage dirt cheap last year

dont skimp out on the rod and line!

If it aint over 75 bucks for line put it back on the shelf (cortland 444 is "ok" for 50 bucks). I personally like RIO grandWF but its my preferance.

reel, go cheap mabye 1% of the time you will get a fish on the reel.

i am not a fan of wholesale, but i searched all of the stores for my camera and they still have one or 2 of the 300 aquaviews left. noone else does. I love mine, although ive never had another, but make sure you pick up a tripod for 16 bucks to put your cable through and stabilize your camera. saves gettin the camera pointed in the right spot. its easy and it keeps your depth and the camera pointed correctly. good luck

Sage, Cortland, Lefty Kreh (who started with sage as their cheif rod designer) all specialists in fly gear. About the reel Life, maybe not too cheap only because if he's getting a 7 weight rod that pretty big for most streams and rivers. He could definately use it most anywhere and might get some lunkers on the reel with that size of gear. The reel will seem inexpensive compared to everything else but I'd simply look for a good drag system. Personally use a 5 weight in the Bow and 4 weight in the Crowsnest, Elk, Oldman etc. Not familiar with northern alberta fly fishing. My 2 cents

No I know. Understood. Just wasn't sure what kind of fishing he's doing with a 7 weight. Maybe something more than we are used to. I agree $50 is a good budget.

Mission Accomplished. Fishing Hole was the place to go, north side.

I ended up buying a package deal, AMUNDSUN 9' 2 pc 6wt rod, reel, spare spool, floating and sinking lines and backers, case, reel case, leaders, complete for $330.00.

I also bought an Aqua-vu quad 4x4 camera system. If I don't like it, I will sell it and try a flasher.

Nice guys, very informative, anything but pushy.

Now, I am going to have to drop one of my obsessions, this one looks expensive.

I was able to try it in 3 lakes, and if you drill the X carefully enough, with the camera in the 5 hole you can monitor all cameras until something comes checking out your bait. The clarity is great, but I think I have some battery issues, have been talking with the great guys at the 'hole' about it.

I am hoping to try it more Sunday, Geezle permitting.

I'm in for sure! Just found out I'll probably be off all weekend so I've got nothing but time
