Oh yes. Not downplaying him at all. He'd crest 180" for sure. Bloody shame he's a 3x4 but impressive enough to get that many inches being a tine shy. Find out in the next couple days if I get the green light to hunt him.

I've never been drawn. Got priority 8 just got to decide where to go. Wanting to try down south because I've never been south of red deer and it looks like a very unique part of Alberta that I'd like to see and make a memorable trip out of.

Default Optics

Curious, what is everyones favorite choice for spotting scope or binos for chasing those big mulies? I do not know much about optics, and I am looking for something at a fair price $250-$300 range, and you will be able to see very clear and close at 400 yards?

Have been doing some scouting around here lately and have been pleasantly surprised. Looks like this year has been good to the prey.

Two years ago I was lucky to get a 3x4 that grossed over 180" in velvet. He hangs on my wall now .

Here's a good mulie, sorry about the poor quality of the pic. It was too hot and lots of heat waves. I think this deer has 20" backs on him.

Any guesses on the size of this one? He's heavy and got cool features but I'm a bit stumped on the size of his frame.

Huntinguy I think he looks good from behind but his ears are together to make him look bigger than he is. I think he is an older deer with short tines and short main been but the added character make you think he is a jumbo. I don't think he will score all that great but is a real good deer and would be hard to pass. Great pics! And the other side of the coin is that a deer that I think is not big others would give their left nut for as well..... I am sure someone would be happy to whack him.

Never judge a deer by a rear photo or when they are walking away, they always look a lot bigger.

This deer grosses 184ish as a 3x4

I got excited over these boys. Wish I would have had better light for pictures and it was way to dark for the video to be decent. See if I can find them in the morning.

IF he had normal mass for his frame and no junk i'd give him 162". With that disgusting mass that he has that will easily push him up into the 170's. Then given his 3 non typical points (the non typical point on his right antler is debatable as to what one is non typical. I think it will be more clear when his velvet comes off) anyways the 3 non typical points I would say give him 10".

Gross I'd say you're looking at a high 170's to low 180's mule deer non typical. The problem is, for archery anyways, if he doesn't have more than 12.5" of non typical length then he doesn't qualify as a non typical and all of those become deductions.

That's just my $0.02 on the deer

I've been seeing him as well. I sure would like to see his big brother that used to run with him. He was a solid high 170's two years ago.
