The rainbow trout in this HD video are in the middle of their spawning routine. Since run off into Big Bear Lake was poor this year the trout seek out rocky shorelines to attempt spawning. In this video you will see the female clearing the bed by turning on her side and fanning it with her tail creating a "red." You will also notice the male swim up along side the female and as they gyrate together the females eggs and males sperm will mix as they fall into the rocks. You may also notice in a few shots some smaller males sneak in to snatch some eggs falling from the female for a quick meal. Very entertaining to watch and I was pretty excited when going through the footage to see that I had captured this spawning activity on GoPro.
