Default Where to buy flies?

Hello,

I am wondering where people buy flies. I have been using KootnayLifstyles but I find that the al though the price is great the flies fall apart fairly easily. Where do you buy flies?

Icky Fly Works has treated me well. Very fair prices, good quality flies and they always throw in some extra's and a discount card for your next order.

Reelflies is OK, but I prefer the flies from Icky, and they're local.

Reel flies are ok at best, many flies are poorly made, I threw away many of the flies I got from there. Their hooks are pretty crappy too, I had a size 8 hook straighten on me while fighting a fish. Aside from that their customer service is phenomenal, they missed a few items in my order and sent them right away with extra.

Paterson Fly Fishing Co. Really high quality flies, have had great luck with them. Have never had a hook issue and the flies are more durable than most I've used.

I've ordered from Ickys numerous times and always been satisfied. The promo code is in the ad at the top of the page. They always throw in a couple freebies it seems too. Great service and great price.

Fish tales or Icky. But I've tied every single fly I've used for years.

I'm a student and could use a little money, so if you want some custom flies done PM me I've done them for a few other people and they've never seemed disappointed.

Icky is good, if you like cheaper flies. In my opinion, they are exactly as advertised - cheap flies.
I'd recommend checking out the local fly shops for some house ties, but also look at various local commercial folks, who do this for a living and will tie an order for you, and make custom variations. It's always nice putting money in a fishermans pocket

It always amazes me that people will spend a ton of money on trips and gear only to try to find the very cheapest flies they can find (the single most important item). Usually it means buying flies tied in a foreign sweatshop, instead of by a local tier that knows the waters and is matching the what the trout are after.

Many people buy flies knowing they are tied elsewhere but do very well fishing with them. If they didn't catch fish they would change that very quickly. I would suspect many of the flies in our better fly shops in Alberta are tied off shore as that is what the consumer demands. If you tie flies commercially put up an ad and let us know you have a better quality alternative that would be worthwhile to many on here. I sure would like to see some of your flies.

Awesome flies for sure Lornce. Do you sell the flies you tie?
Rather than me searching to figure out the wet fly, what is the name of it? I did look up Silver doctor but it did not fit.

To me, the bottom line is "do they catch fish or not" and I can tell you through years of experience that Icky's flies work...everytime.

Just ordered a bunch of flies through Icky. Ordered them on a Saturday, they shipped the same day and arrived in Edmonton on Tuesday. Very pleased with the service. Flies seem to be of decent quality, we'll see how they hold up.
